Research in non-science subjects?

I'm an Econ major and pre-med, I like Econ a lot too, probably more than pre-med courses. Should I pursue economics research or scientific research? Basically, if I try and become an economist, would they still respect scientific research. Alternatively, would med schools research respect econ research?

Thanks

I have spoken to adcoms about this because my research is not clinical research and for them research = research, at least for getting into medical school. Once in medical, doing research in you future specialty is really helpful when applying to residency.

what if we major in biology and have engineering research, but are applying to med school? is that ok?

Yes, have a friend doing the exact same thing. Research would be boring if you were doing it in something that you are not interested in.
