research/internship

I posted question before but no one answered me :( I had interview with big state university which ranked top 5 for my engineering field. I'm currently doing triple major(because I'm from LAC). I had some family personal issues last year, and that really makes me not to focus fully on academics and my GPA is below 3.0 about 2.6. I didn't get any questions about gpa when I had interview(it was not formal one). I decided to work with graduate student there and I already talked to professor that I will work there from this coming semester. But, all of sudden, professor emailed me few days ago about my current gpa.

I told her honestly about my gpa, but, I explained I had personal family issues, and I've learned to overcome with difficult time and be more positive not to give up situation. Also, I told her I will nail down on academics this semester.

I didn't get any response yet from professor. but, was it right response to explain her about my gpa? I was just honest about myself, but, I'm worried about being fired before I start research.

Please give me any advice..

PS. I'm sophomore and I had three summers of research from high school to this past summer. That's why I could have interviews.

Well, I feel that since you explained why you have a 2.6 then you should be fine. You shouldn’t do too much worrying because you already have research experience and that goes a long way.

Thanks for your reply, my gpa was actually about 2.7 after recalculation I don’t think this is better than 2.6 though. but, anyway, yeah, the worst thing I can imagine is being fired. But, I am trying not too worried about it.
