Research on average number of applications per student?

I'm looking for some research (or a good guess :-) on what is the average number of college applications submitted per student and if/how that has changed in recent years. Any ideas?

You'd need to hunt down some comprehensive surveys to be statistically relevant. I don't know where you'd get this however: I wish I could help.

See if this NACAC publication has what you are looking for.

I am pretty sure that's a CIRP question (on the Freshman Survey). I am sure you could find it in any hard copy of "The American College Freshman" but I don't think that particular question is discussed in any online briefs.

The number is out there, and it may be cited somewhere, for whatever that is worth.

ASQ ask the question, too, but I've not seen any national reports and that's a survey that's given more pell-mell than CIRP's College Freshman survey is.

There was also a poll thread about this on CC before... But that's out of the CC population and the um... biases and incomplete sampling can be pretty distracting.
