Research on Transcripts or Work Study pay

According to the program supervisor, I will be doing a "research" job that falls under work study (which I qualify for.. about 2k.) I thought wow this is the best thing ever, but the catch is: if I get paid, I won't have the research experience on my transcript. If I don't get paid, then the inverse would happen.

How much is research experience on a transcript actually worth? Will this affect me career-wise? Should I just take the work study? I do not absolutely need the cash but it would be nice.

(I posted on this subforum because I am going to be a mech engineer planning to perform work study with researchers in the engineering field this semester.)

Who cares of it’s on your transcript? Put it on your resume. Just because it isn’t on your transcript doesn’t mean it never happened.

Any research credit you get winds up on your transcript as something ambiguous like “Special Projects” or “Independent Study.” If you actually want employers or grad school admissions committees to know that you did research, you’re always going to want to put it on a resume or CV, regardless of compensation.

The only reasons I can see to get credits for doing research is if you badly need elective credits or you’re a couple credits short of being considered full-time for that term.

Take the money.

Ill take the money.
