I'm sorry for writing more than one topic but the one thing that I really want to know about Dartmouth is about research opportunities and internships. Dartmouth is my first choice and I absolutely loved it when I visited but are there lots of opportunities for freshmans on campus to do research with their professors and work in their labs. I know that the D-Plan makes it possible for Dartmouth students to be a part of very competitive internship programs when other schools are in session but is it relatively easy for a student to ask a professor to work in their lab and gain first hand practical experience in that manner?

Yes, there are many research and internship opportunities at Dartmouth.

Many science majors are able to do research with a prof or in a lab (my roommate is a sophomore and is working in a research lab).

Sophomores with GPAs in the top 30% of the class can apply for a Presidential Scholar Research Assistantship. This involves working with a professor of any field on his/her research during two terms of junior year and getting paid about $625 a term.

Career Services provides info about internships all over the country, and there are a TON of organizations on campus that offer funding (my other roommate worked in NY over the summer and Dartmouth not only paid her salary but food and transportation costs).

You can always just ask a prof if you can do research for them.

I hope this helps!
