Hello everyone. I’m a prospective freshman who was recently admitted to UCSB under my primary major of Biopsychology (woo!). I plan on going to med school in the future as I have always aspired to become a physician. Reading old threads and digging through Google, I’ve seen many posts that say there are a plethora of research opportunities available for pre-meds at UCSB; in fact it’s one of the big incentives behind why I’m considering attending UCSB. But, noone specified if there were spots open for all undergrads or if the spots are competitive. If any current UCSB pre-meds or even UCSB alumni can chime in, I’d really appreciate it!
On a side note, I’m fascinated with neuroscience and how our brain behaves the way it does (hence the BioPsych major) – is there any type of neuroscience research ongoing in the campus that I could partake in as a freshman? BUT, I also enjoy general biological sciences just as much. So, if research opportunities are more “likely” for bio majors, I’ll definitely consider changing majors. Since both majors are in the College of Letters & Science, I’d assume this won’t be too difficult or am I wrong?
Any help, insight, and/or tips are tremendously appreciated!
