Can anyone describe the research opportunities for underclassmen (specifically freshmen) at NEU?

what’s your field? Science, engineering, other?

Chemical engineering

However, research as a freshman (and even as a sophmore in most subjects) is very very tough to get, and sometimes is impossible. For example in the economics department, most people only start doing research their third or fourth year- and it’s usually because of an independant study class, an honors project, or getting set up with a professor by another student or the advisor.

So don’t get your hopes up immediately that you’ll be able to jump right in… But if you do well in classes and talk to professors often (which you should be doing anyway for graduate school and recommendations), then maybe after a year you’ll be able to apply for a position. Also try to figure out what kind of areas in chemical engineering you’re interested in and then work with a professor doing research in a similar field. It’d be pointless and aggravating to work in something that you hate studying.

ChemE car looks like a good way to get some hands-on project experience.
