Last year I made a thread concerning my chances of getting into Johns Hopkins. I have a passion for medicine and have volunteered at a pharmacy and hospital. A couple people recommended that I perform research to strengthen my chances; however, I am having difficulty finding a place to perform research. Any tips or places would be much recommended! Thanks
Cold email principal investigators at the research labs, usually connected to universities or hospital/healthcare systems, near you. Read what the group does before and include at least one sentence on why their research interests you and how you’d benefit from volunteering or assisting. Repeat until you get a response. Don’t make it seem as if you’re going to be a researcher as a high schooler too. Start off by shadowing and demonstrating that you actually understand what’s going on before asking for permission to actually do hands on work with the group.
That’s what I did. I just googled professors with similar research interests, read the abstracts of their most recent works, and then emailed a lot of professors. Talk about your interest in their research as well as your future plans in their lab and you should be fine
