I know Barnard students can take classes at Columbia…but can they also do research there? The Barnard/Columbia affiliation seems perfect - the friendly, attentive community of a small liberal arts college within an exciting urban environment, plus the diversity and course selection of a larger university. The only piece missing here seems to be research opportunities. Can anyone shed some light on this? thanks. :)

Sure, you can do research whereever. One of my many positions was at Columbia's Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy. Worked there for almost two years, work-study job. But other than that, most of my research experience was with my professors in the Barnard econ department, so there's plenty to do on both sides of the street. Wide variety.

What's your field?

P.S. and yeah, it is pretty perfect. :-D

okay, cool! I'm more biology/medicine oriented research-wise. I'm really interested in neuroscience/cognitive science, so I'm hoping there are opportunities to do research there.

i'm premed and i'm going to barnard =-)
