<p>i just receivd a letter from the UROP (Undergraduate Research Opp. Program)... and i was wondering.. is it worth it? i plan on going into medicine, but the fact that there's virtually no pay makes me question whether or not i should apply for an actual job at the university hospital or join the program.</p>

<p>I am trying to get into the MRC program, which is the residential affiliate of UROP. Both programs offer monetary compensation to students who have work study as part of their financial aid package. If not then you can get academic credit for it. Anyone can take part in the program, it isn't limited to LSA students. I will be in the College of Engineering. I recommend emailing someone at UROP if you are interested and have questions.</p>
<p>OP I think you should do it because medical grad schools love to see research on your resume...that's why I'm doing it...</p>
<p>You don't have to go through UROP to do research. Most of my friends who did go through it hated the experience of UROP. You can just as easily email faculty whose research interests you, and they will most likely take you on. That's what I did.</p>

<p>Take UROP for credit...you should get actual research experience, and taking say 3 credits/semester for 2 semesters should be very easy A's for you. I highly recommend doing that. Good that you get those A's, and there is no "homework," so it means less to study for around exam time.</p>

<p>what determines who gets the brochure/info? were we supposed to indicate that we were interested in the program, or did they select certain individuals to send the information to?
also, what type of research would you actually be doing? any prior experience recommended/required? sorry.. kinda new to this</p>
