research over the summer

what's the point? i'm looking into an internship for compsci at my local college but what am i going to do? what is there to do? do you guys usually submit your research to some competition? or what....

well, I never looked into compsci research, I did biochem stuff. Basically if it works how I think it will, you have a mentor who will design a project for you and you learn how/what to do and progress with the project. There are several ways to present your findings through various competitions. Below are the most popular.

Intel ISEF is the traditional science fair with tri-fold displays and all. There are several levels, at least in my are there’s a county which progresses to a large regional competition. Less than 5 from that are chosen to move on to the International competition. Except it’s sorta through your school, so your school should reach out to interested students.

There’s Siemens Competition where you submit a research paper. Take a look at their website for more info:

There’s also Intel STS which is another research paper competition, and that’s only for seniors:

There are probably several different forums at a more local level depending on where you live. Check with others who would know about those.
