What was the mass of your tower? I had no idea how competitive the event is... my 53 gram tower held the weight but was smoked by kids with stuff under 20 grams. I guess a new design is in order for the state comp...

Oh, frozen-tears, you're in California?? That sucks... And the problem with stereoisomerism was drawing all the configurational isomers of CH3CHOHCH(CH3)CHOHCH3 :-/ I think it's 3, but the class thinks it's 4.

fRiT0- Our tower was 18 grams, I think. It didn't hold the full weight, but thankfully, judging is by efficiency this year, not by weight.

I was under the impression that you had to hold the full weight in order to be considered Tier One in the judging. I know that the official rule book doesn't read that way, but the rules on the score sheet at the regional competition definitely said that towers not holding the full weight would be ranked behind those that did. Stupid Science Olympiad... don't even get me started on Storm the Castle...

Science Olympiad: you may all know this already, but there is a forum for sci oly that has a lot of information about the events and lots of people to answer question.

Why does it suck that I'm in California? My tower was 22 grams, I think.

I'll take a look at that isomer problem when I get home. I'm still at school, it's 6:45 and I needed to supervise my section editors for the paper, because it's a press night. (I'm EIC.) Later!

Ah, I guess our regional coordinators interpreted things differently. Heh, don't get me started on Mission... ugh.

California is a bad state to be in for SO because it's got Troy HS, lol. They're a scary team.

I don't know who owen is, but I'm a cocky kid who hasn't met any limits to his intelligence yet, therefore theres nothing I can't do.
yeahhhh life is good

are you going to pimp those WTP girls?

eh, you're a guy? how do you intend to apply to wtp?

maybe he's implying that he'll get into RSI and then stalk them? oO

Ohh yea... I remember. Troy wins nationals practically every year, don't they? Haha well SO State is on the same day as Chem Oly Nationals. Last year I hear our olympiad coordinator was able to open a Sunday test, so hopefully it works out.

Chemistry Olympiad SERIOUSLY burns me out. It's an easy test, but the degree of pressure/concentration is insane. Looks like my spring break is going down the drain. For a good cause, of course.

yeah, Chem Olympiad sounds cool; I wish I'd known about it earlier >.< oh well, shows you how informed my school is. Well, good luck with the Chem Nationals test as well ^.^

if your school doesn't have it, you can ask your teachers to find out and sign you up or something. our school just got contacted by the ACS

Are there any USAMO takers here?

Thanks, everyone!

Zogoto, there are probably several, but I'm not one of them. The one year I made AIME I scored a 102.5 on the AMC 12 and I'm suspecting I got a 1 or 2 on the AIME, except I never went back to check.

Anywho... I might try USAMTs next year. Maybe.

i'm hoping for a usamo invitation this year...
143 on AMC12A and an 11 (:-/) on AIME
being from arkansas should help. lol

"143 on AMC12A and an 11 (:-/) on AIME"

Very nice scores, IMO they will most definitely qualify you to the USAMO.

I don't pimp or stalk, I attract.
Now I sound like a cocky @$$hole so enough about that.

lol you do sound cocky, spydertennis - but i'll let it go.
what makes you sure that the WTPers aren't true nerds and would rather look at robots (in my case) than be interested in any guys?
=P

what's a WTP?
