lol, Nghi. That's seriously skewed... commitment to SSP? SSP doesn't want or need anyone's commitment, SSP wants your money.

^^ hehe. you are so right.

o and let me introduce myself. i just like visiting cc occasionally so i m not obssessed with it and use all my time here so im not such a frequent poster. o and yes, i like these thread it is meaningful, im just a sophomore this year and didnt apply to rsi but i hope im still welcome on this thread. hehe :)

u are welcomed!

Conversation between a friend and me:

Him: Wats RSI?
Me: super elite nerd camp basically [i use the term with all due respect and affection of course]
Him: so i bet they dont play any beruit [a drinking game] tournies there

Just thought I'd share that moment of zen...

of course you're welcome!

and ppl like that (in reference to the person nghi quoted) make me sick. maybe i'm just jealous....whatever

but hmm rsi vs. ssp? psh, i'm with frozen-tears on this one.

Look what someone wrote in the SSP thread:

"damnit..im not looking fwd to picking which camp to go to..if im given the opportunity to do so....cuz seriously..yeh..rsi is "the program you turn down others to go to"...bt..bleh..i got accepted to ssp LAST yr...so i guess i have some sort of committment to them...and since mr. bowdon has known me for the past yr already....ahh..i duno.

mayb i'll be the only rsi acceptee to turn it down...hahaha...wouldnt that be weird...."

Ha, ha. If I remember correctly, a fair amount of SSP students just happen to be qualified to go to Caltech. On the other hand, Caltech once thought of blanket-accepting anyone who goes to RSI.

Isn't SSP a lot less selective than Caltech? I've always had the impression that they were pretty much unselective.

I don't know about how selective it is, but it doesn't sound nearly as awesome as RSI. I heard about it after RSI and more or less turned my nose up at it, lol. Perhaps SSP will look pretty good if I'm rejected from RSI, but it's a little late to think about that.

Don't worry man, we'll get some beirut going.

Last year, the acceptance rate was over 50%. This year, it dropped to 23% due to a 150% increase in applicants. This year, SSP is almost as selective as Caltech.

lol yeah I didn't apply cuz it's for astro stuff. That guy sounds really cocky. He sounds like he knows he'll get into RSI and he'll get to turn it down...

Heh, I'm not a drinker myself, spyder, but I'll be sure to correct my friend.

turning down rsi? what a shame. chance of a life time for everyone, and someone might waste it like that.

Not for those on the waitlist.

well, withdrawing from waitlist is different than being admitted and turning it down. then you would be wasting your chance, since you made it already.

rsi has a waitlist?

Yeah, I read it somewhere in this thread that they maintain a waitlist of 5 students or so, and only 2 ended up going last year.

hey, it's only 2 people, but 40% is pretty awesome for percent admitted from waitlist. right? haha.

The yield is almost 100 percent dude. ;) :(

only 3 more people to go. =)
