When we took our PSATs one of the more rebellious guys asked the proctor whether he could leave the address blank. When pressed for a reason, he responded, "I don't want to receive junk mail from colleges." We all looked at him as if he was the most ignorant moron we have seen, the proctor gave him a weird look as well and responded, "College mail isn't junk mail." Now, nearly everyone else in that test room have their drawers full of college junk mail. We now think enviously of that person's empty drawer free of such spam...

wrathofgod- good job, youre pretty lucky- i would have entered but the deadline just kinda skipped on by me. man i dont know how your essay would compete with my "Effects of structural modifications on scaffolding proteins in signal transduction pathways in mammalian salivary gland cells"...hmmmm...well, good job anyway! lol

just on a side note, I'M GOING TO ISEF! I just won grand prize for the team category in my regional fair. Who else is going to Phoenix?!?! Schemer, I seem to remember you saying something about coming....and Nghi? I hope to see you here as well. Anyways, I'm off to go to dinner or celebrate!

The postcard he's talking about is the one they said you could enclose if you wanted them to respond with a confirmation. You're thinking about the proof of delivery from the postal service.
lol some of the mail I've gotten was worthwhile, but some I just put in the recycle bin.

Wrtah - how did you get notified? THrough the school? I know that it's highly school-dependent and doesn't even ask for student contact info so... Aggh I wish I hadn't procrastinated the essay so badly - I was doing superconductors.

BTW - where did you get your research on the topic? through university libraries? I only had access to library books so I had to do research on a mundane topic. :( But a lot of the winners were mundane too. Jonathan Tsao only wrote about superstring in its most generic form and there were A LOT of common library sources for that.

BTW frozen-tears, are you studying for National Chem Olympiad? I, a sophomore, was stupid enough to study for another competition and missed qualifying by 1 pt. :( Though now I'm studying for AP CHem BTW how difficult is it? And did you take any organic chem classes? I actually know Eric Brown from a computer gaming forum so I got some advice from him although he had the advantage of taking organic chem classes.

i did my research through various journal articles online. i started at www.eurekalert.com (great resource for beginners on any topic) and once i understood the basics i began to delve into the more technical stuff on pubmed.

Lol I store all of my college mail in a box but it's all filled up to the rim now. Plus some colleges mail oversized mail for some reason. ANd UNC Chapel Hill spammed me for some reason, tho it's public ut-of-state, and Michi State too just today.
