Research Science Institute 2005

I hate it when the college includes a CD or something, which then has to be taken out because it's nonrecyclable...

Ah...collegemail. I thought they were all useful information at first. If only I had said 'no, don't send me your crap' when they first began to contact me. Every 'we'll help you, darling, through the tough waters of college admissions' brochure has turned out to be 'hey, look at ____! We're awesome! Behold our beautiful campus! Look at the wonderful city! Come visit! Yeeeeeah!'

I'm thinking of applying to a Umass lowell summer band camp. The application fee is $50, but it runs in the middle of RSI, and I haven't gotten my rejection letter yet. What do you all think? Is it worth the risk to apply to the band camp? Is there even a risk? -dare I believe that there's a chance I'm getting into RSI?

when's the app due?

Doesn't say, but it's soon. It costs $395, though, and if I want to get a scholarship I'm going to have to get an essay in ASAP, preferably tomorrow, or the next day. I'm assuming that I won't get my RSI status, although compared with all of you here, I don't think it has the slightest chance of making it past the first round.

well think of it this way. if you get rejected then you'll be glad you sent in the application. if you do get in i'm sure you wouldn't mind those 50 dollars because it's alot less than the extra 395 dollars you would be paying and it's RSI.

just my 2 cents

Simfish, I am more or less studying for nationals. I'm saying this because I feel like I should be studying for it but want to concentrate on Physics AP for a bit.

Chem AP was ridiculously easy. I never studied for it. But I've noticed that some people agree with me, while everyone else would disagree entirely -- I don't know of anyone who thought it was any kind of "medium-difficult."

You should apply. 395$ is very inexpensive for a music program so why not? Agreeing w/wishful thinker, you probably won't miss the 50$ if you get into RSI and if you don't, it's a fun thing to do in the summer.
lol University of Chicago totally spammed me and then they sent a card that said "if you don't reply to this you won't get any more of our lovely spam" and I was like OK!!

Ah, I see, frozen-tears (summer really really should be...the time in which the most work should be done!)... And I am going to self-study Physics C next year too...

Damn, they spammed me once, yes, I did tell them to send me more but I didn't get anything yet. :( Neither did Caltechgive me anything more after the initial spam.

MIT and Caltech fill my inbox on a daily basis, at first it was cool, but now... ah who am I kidding its still cool.

lol yeah I subscribe to them. I like the font "Caltech" is written in.

doesn't it annoy you guys that uchicago wouldn't shut up about how many nobel laureates it had

i personally loathe getting mail from agnes scott and tulane. i mean, when you JUST got mail from them the day before you start to get freaked out...

zoogies....
are you really 14?...and a junior??

as for band camp...
You should apply. $395 isn't that much when compared to other summer programs. At least you have a back up should you not get into RSI. I think that's worth the 50 bucks.

Hm.. yah, zoogies, I think you should apply to band camp as well; like everyone's saying, it's good to have something to fall back on.

I don't see most of my college mail because my mom goes through it and throws stuff from anywhere she hasn't heard of away. :p

ditto on that last sentence. lol.

Lucky. How did you subscribe to them?

Yeah, I think I'll apply, especially since $50 divided by the odds of me getting into RSI is virtually infinity :)

Yes :P

It's not that bad, unless you watch Lizzie McGuire. While channel-surfing once, I caught a few minutes of an episode where some guy skips a grade - one - and everyone else is ten feet taller than him. Those silly media.

You can subscribe to most colleges' mailing lists through their websites. In the case of MIT you need to make a MyMIT account on their undergrad admissions website. Caltech generally sends pretty interesting stuff... I'm now wondering if I remembered to tell them that I want more stuff... shoot.

So, juniors. Have you started sending out for viewbooks and applications yet? Or do you think they'll all arrive on their own?

Viewbooks? Applications? Hm. Colleges usually send them to me, most of them without my asking or wanting. Viewbooks, I mean. You can send for applications now?

I'll go subscribe now, heh.

Zoogies, maybe it was the grade when you're supposed to grow a lot...lol....But wow 14 is crazy. I'm 15 and I thought that was a big deal. Thanks for making me feel dumb. lol jk haha
