Research Science Institute 2005

Omg Accepted!!!

hm. rejected. but that wasn't surprising. now i'm just waiting for nj gov school. its the same situation where last year they got letters out really early.. but this year they haven't. its so frustrating.

about 5 on the waitlist huh? sighh...oh so close....i can't get over it.
thanks for empathizing flierdeke. I hate being in the gray area. Always have.

I don't even know what constitutes the "creme de la creme". But I'd say RSI accepts individuals with potential. There's a huge difference between "geniuses of the generation" and brilliant kids looking for intellectual stimulation. One implies that these people have achieved everything they possibly can; they are the best of the best but there's nowhere else to go. The latter implies that they have the potential to become great scientists, political leaders, professors, nobel prize winners...but certainly, there's need for growth and learning.

Acceptance to RSI isn't the end of the road, it's just the beginning (to be cliche). But - there are always other ways to start the journey. RSI just gives some kids a headstart. It's what you make of it, I guess. (yeah..that was sappy i know)

Good luck to everyone (acceptees, rejectees and waitlisted alike)!

flierdeke: congrats on your acceptance, was wondering if you would post your stats. thanks :)

but im confused, are u still going to graduate early after 3 years of high school? so you are in your second year of high school~sophomore?

Okkkk my bad... got a little carried away there. Don't lynch me just yet. I'm definetly not a holier than thou kinda guy. RSI is by no means a judge of anything. How can they rate you based on a few tests and 2 pieces of paper? No way in hell, they just did what they thought was best and what they percieve as the best is definetly no meter to measure up against. Sorry if I offended anyone I'm sure you guys are all cool in your own right and all deserved to get in. Wish we could've all made it.

Guys - I second everything said here!

I am really sorry that you guys didn't get in, and I think we all got lucky. Please, don't forget that only 80 (or 50, if you are a US citizen) and your application was likely to be denied for space purposes.

I woke up just now (it's 5:07 AM) and shaking like crazy when I read the email! But really, we all got lucky and I hope all the best to you guys!

Good Luck and I hope you get good news later from the other summer programs

Sorry, we did kind of jump on you there, spyder. Oops.

now0520: I'm going through high school in 3 years, and this is my middle (sophomore/junior) year. I'm not actually going to graduate after three years - call it "dropping out" if you'd like ^^

as for stats -

anywho congrats flierdeke. anyone want to post their AIM sn i would love to talk to you guys. i didnt apply this year im a sophomore :)

o yeah, are there any ppl who applied/got accepted from Florida?

yes, for a ridiculously easy aime/amc series. although i might add it was unfair to those taking the aime 2

My aim is Vinny919. Feel free to IM me, I'm on all the time. :)

spyder - it's ok. I'm not at all a fan of arrogance, but I suppose that was forgiveable considering you must be ecstatic at the moment. (Congrats btw) I just tend to jump at comments like that because we're only human. We tend to forget other people when something good happens to us. I know if I said something like that, I'd like to be reminded to be more considerate. But maybe I'm just a sap.

flier - wow. those perfect test scores are pretty nice to look at.
What exactly is mathnerds.com?

chebyshev, are you a usamo qualifier?

LadyinRed: <<what exactly="" is="" mathnerds.com?="">></what>

An online math homework/general-question help service. It's pretty well-engineered, so that you get a quick personal response from someone who's been selected to answer questions in specific categories. I love answering questions - it's calc review with the twist that you're not trying to answer the question, but rather to design a good hint that'll help the other person out without giving the problem away.

(well-said about arrogance/considerate-ness, by the way.)

My aim is flierdeke ^^ (only so much memory for sn-type things, I s'pose.)

My aim is AltairAqua (hehe, I second your comment, flierdeke).

i have qualified for 3 years in a row.

And a third over here I'm spydertennis lol...

My AIM SN is PinnedBot. I'm about to leave though. (School :-)

rejected .
