Research Science Institute 2005

average, would u mind posting some stats?

well i guess thats that, i wasnt holding out much hope, but now at least i have closure. At least i still have the air force academy summer seminar, what are other peoples fallbacks?

Sorry everyone, i apologize for not posting in a long time

Congratulations to all those who have the opportunity (or still hoping for the opportunity) to attend RSI.

Special congratulations to Kinglz...REPRESENT!!!!!!

However, i offer my support to anyone that was not accepted especially since i won't be attending this summer (REJECTED)

To be honest, i wasn't surprised but disappointed. I agree with FRANKENCHRIS1; don't let a single piece of paper define u.

Best wishes to all (honestly)
Once again, CONGRATULATIONS to all those that have been accepted
and GOOD LUCK in the future to those who were not accepted

Cya

R.S.I. decision- REJECTED. blah. ah who cares, Kay Aull got rejected too and shes the real biomaster.

(im the old adidasty and adidasty^2. i get frozen a lot)

LadyinRed--I emailed them, they say the alternate list is short at 15 people. Officially confirmed. yup. not happy news, but news.

yeah...nice "short" list there...
blahh...looks like my chances are going down...

Chances are probably good, I say. I bet around 4 juniors will make MOP and turn down RSI. That measn you have a 4/15 chance, and that I say is very strong compared to the under 5% acceptance rate from the original pool. Keep your hopes alive!

But some, like TIankai Liu, may turn down MOP for RSI.

Both who applied from my school were rejected.

I know personally one person accepted to RSI who I am confident will turn it down if he makes MOP (and he will, and possibly advance.)

Hey guys, yah... I'm on the alternate list, I don't even know what to think 15 people? That's . . . kinda hefty. But uh... What's this MOP we speak of?

wrathofgod, here are some of my stats:
1590 SAT, 4.8 GPA (my school weights just about everything), 5s on AP Calc BC, Physics, Bio, and some others
I've also won some awards at local math competitions (nothing major), and I've done a little math-type research with a professor. Still in amazement about being accepted, I'm sure many awesome people who didn't really deserved to.

Anyone else from CA heard anything?

last year those that wanted to attend MOP where able to go to the caltech RSI session. I'm not sure how it will work this year... they might not overlap.

What do they think of changing your field? I put bio down for primary, but I am kind of bad at bio and its the only science for which I have not taken an AP class. I had good questions for bio so I put that down, and I was interested at that time. I would rather do some things like biochem or chem or engineering or chemical engineering or something along those lines. Should I email CEE? It has been said that you don't wanna sound anal about projects (Nguyen 2005).

(the citation makes me feel cool and scientific)

I think you should get in touch with them as soon as possible before they assign you a mentor.

When are we going to find out about our mentor (and topic) assignment anyway?

apparently no one from stuyvesant high school got accepted
damnn

haha sucks for those stuck up magnet kids

yeah id actually rather do my secondary field than my primary field... can i switch that up? i dont want to seem... anything not good

zogoto: they spend now until RSI assigning mentors. I'm sorry but it might be difficult changing what you want to study. They may only have a certain number of people that are willing to mentor a student. They can't just get different people so easily. Matching kids with mentors is probably as hard for the CEE employees as the RSI selection is.
You told RSI you want to study bio, they admitted you under that assumption..... You can't switch so easily. However, I'd email maite and see what she says! Hopefully it won't be a big deal (hopefully)

h88: A few kids last year where contact by their mentors a few weeks before RSI began, but must people didn't get to know who their mentor was untill RSI.

spyder: when I got accepted to RSI, they told me that I would be doing my secondary field in the letter. But last year we also got a big packet with the acceptance too. I'd suspect that the next thing you get will tell you which of your topics they've chosen for you =)

Why is the RSI thread on the second page?!?! This should not be!

A quick question. Are any of you acceptees from the state of new york?

Hell yeah
New York is the best state in the country.
