Guys, if you want to get into RSI because you think it will guarantee you a happier life later on, also don't forget to listen to 80s music. It'll make you even happier.

is this paul?

When looking at the application will a bit of humor entertain the adcoms

to Static and other alumns, do you have to list every CB test? I only want to list my stronger ones..
also, if I do have research experience but they never carried me far in science competitions, are they still "good" research?
then, what is the quota for MA? This question was left unanswered.
also, what is MOP?
then, how much are extracurriculars taken into account? That is probably my strongest attribute.
so, you have to get a rec from a science and math teacher? What about another subject, guidance counselors and other people?
also, is a 119 AMC 10 good to list? what about a perfect score on a state math exam?
finally, about the social life at RSI, do you have time to spend with other rickoids outside lab hours? what do you do for fun there?

On the Application it says 1-2 paragraphs per question. For question 2 (first and second choices) can/should we write 4 paragraphs (2 for first, 2 for second,) because it weems impossible to only write one paragraph on each, even if it is a really, really long paragraph...
ty in advance for any reply.

I just listed each problem/question and underneath each, wrote a little paragraph about why it interests me.

Approximately how many hours of research and labwork did you guys (who got into RSI) have? Per week, per month...etc. And what type of research were you guys doing?

do not ask questiona about quotas or the competitiveness of various states! you are wasting your time. we do not know any of this information, all we have said is that judging from the kind of students from ny and cali who attended rsi, it seems as though the most populous states are the most competitive. but that is only speculation and we will never know anything specific, so dont ask

social life at rsi is great, there is no bed time and only a few rules (like dont do drugs, dont end up dead)
lab hours are about the same as school hours and after that we had a guest lecture on some nights (from mit and harvard faculty, including several nobel laureates) and then after that we were basically free for the rest of the night
the great thing about rsi is not only the research but the ppl you meet and the fact that you are allowed to do whatever you want, no rules

for research experience that varies, several rickoids were already published when they came and several had no experience at all (like me)

so dont worry either way, if you have no experience just do your best to show a thorough knowledge of your field and a passion for science in your essays (thats probly how i got in)

can i still apply for this summer...ima junior rite now at Stuyvesant HS and i have some research experience and stuff...? thanks a lot!

yes you can still apply ivybound. there's like a few weeks left!

must you only have two recs?
do you have to get an official score report from CB? what about PSAT? what if you only want to send in certain scores?
if you take a course at a college, is that college AP?
is neurobiology an 'other' course?

ello? any1?

wenie99:
Why are the people you want to ask for recs? Will two of them accurately convey you?

Photocopy the reports from collegeboard and psat. I don't believe CEE has a collegeboard code. Mmm, as for the other scores, are they really bad?

I seem to remember that the college/ap/ib were grouped together. So a college course can be in that group. Sure, i think neurobiology can be other. Just make sure it's noted clearly.

you can have other recs, only if you think they will show another side of you. you don't have to get an official form from CB. not for PSAT either. they trust you enough to know that you're not going to lie, and i think it's in the best interest if you don't either. then again scores aren't the only thing they look at. when you're looking for the cream of the crop, you need other means to separate the good from the great. list all the courses you take at college as "other"

Happy New Year You guys!

i haven't been to this thread in a while, and just reading about yall's apps to RSI make me nervous. T_____T my stats aren't as great and it makes me feel so incompetent, heh. good luck with your apps.

question though: you know how the back of the app says "teacher recommendation: 2" but it only has one sheet... SOOOOO do you photocopy it twice and give those photocopies to those two separate teachers? or do you hand one teacher the original (with your stats on the back) and give a photocopy to another?

Thanks you guys. =)

By the way, "wenie99" above is not wenie99, but zxchen06. I am the real wenie99. Anyways, zxchen06 is so stupid that she broke her computer and had to use mine. Now she is using my UN everywhere. Just ignore this guys, this is a message just for zxchen06 ("the evil twin")

xinerz- I think you can photocopy it
Static- can you get a rec from a non-science/non-math person?
- if I have taken three outside courses and can't fit them in the tiny slot for 'other', what should I do?
- so, can I only list the better CB scores? and they did ask for 'verification of standardized scores'?
- what are the diff fields of science?
- where do I get a verification of AP scores?
- #5 and #7 should not be on a separate piece of paper or in paragraph form, right? (list CB scores, technical skills)
- three typewritten pgs- double-spaced? font? format?
- where do you put your honors and awards?

thanks for any opinions and feedback. you are all AWESOME! *

On a final note, to >wenie99< that is, I didn't know you presaved your UN/password; who would know? typed in a question and it popped up as wenie99! gosh, also, you didn't have to be so bitchy about it; none of the questions were offensive and some ppl gave really great feedback, you should be thankful for that! So quit the whinning, stop the childishness and start learning from others...
This discussion forum is NOT open to your complaints on life, and ME!!!
P.S. I am NOT "the evil twin"; who came up with that? oh, wait, I know...

ok guys, for test results, can I just photocopy my collebeboard results(you know the normal page they send you with their header, results, and interpretation booklets, etc) and send it to RSI, or should I request a "official" report of ap, and sat results sent to rsi.

photocopy is fine
