Research Science Institute 2005

sure...is there something specific in astrophysics that you want to research?...quarks? dark matter?

You can do that kind of stuff at RSI...?

umm well you're not going to get your hands on a particle accelerator, but I know one particular rickoid that did a paper on the amount of dark matter in the universe, or something relating to dark matter. It really involved alot of math...

if you're really really good, they let you play with expensive toys!!

lol like a GC/MS? i still have yet to put my hands on that...

Ya, I'm really interested in Dark Matter; I'm also very interested in exosolar planets.

Sry, I meant exoplanets or extrasolar planets. I wanted to write one essay on find these "hot jupiters" and how that might change in the future with increasingly accurate telescopes, as well as the problem with our turbulent atmosphere.
My first choice for a topic would be Cosmology and I am very interested in the dark matter that makes up most of the universe, how it is distributed, and candidates for what it could be. I was also going to talk about "dark energy" which not much is know about that must be present for the expansion of universe to be accelerating. I was wondering if two things related to space were too similar for my first and second choices.

Hmm. what are soem examples of topics for environmental biology?

Hey I just got my PSAT score and its really bad...so is it true that standardized test scores and grades can only help you in RSI admissions? I have things to off set stupid things like school and test scores like SW regional finalist, isef etc..

yes definatly, SW finalist and isef will out do not so hot scores...

and yes many labs had GC-MS,UV-vis, lots of stuff... but they're not exactly going to just hand it over to you :-P

dudes, i got a 169 on psat and am still applying to rsi. I will never get in. haha

whens teh deadline for application? i wanted to apply but im too lazy to write the essays.

umm the people that give there time here to answer aspiring rickoids questions should not waste their time telling you the deadline which you could easily find on the RSI website. Look it up.

To lazy to write the essays? My guess is you're too lazy for RSI. Prove me wrong. Almost half of RSI 04 didn't know it existed untill around a week before the deadline, you have plenty of time.

question: i thought SW semi's or finalists were only supopsed to be seniors this year?

What's SW?

SW=Siemens Westinghouse competition

SW accepts entries from individuals AND from teams of 2-3 people. Individuals must be a senior, team members just have to be in high school. Anyone that has placed in SW before their senior year participated in a team.

Does SW look really good? I believe there was a junior that worked w/ a senior that got to nat. finals, but I only made it to Regional finals. Does it look good for rsi or is it just something all the applicants have?

ohhhh, SW DEFINITELY looks good on ANY application

hey zogot, what region were u in..i was in southwest

What is the point of doing research in high school? Maybe they should hold students to the same standards that they do for professionals in the field, otherwise it seems pointless to lead them to think that they are actually doing something worthwile. (There are some very good projects but most of them, even some that make the finals, are trivial.)
