Cool. I've been programming for almost 9 years (and I'm turning 17 this month). But with 7 classes at school this year, I have no time to do new things :(

hmm, I've been programming (beyond ridiculously simple nothings) only since the summer preceeding my sophmore year.

I'm sure you'll be able to find time eventuallly (vacation works)

Do we have to just list SAT I and II scores or provide photocopies of the transcript?

wouldn't emailing the people at CEE be the best way to answer that question?

730 Math IIC is fine. i applied with a 750 in math iic and a 740 in molecular biology. don't worry about your scores.

if emailing people at CEE would be the best way to answer that question, what's the point of this board?

asking questions about the nature of the experience itself and having the opportunity to meet other highly motivated high schoolers who have a strong interest in research, and who one may later encounter in person if they happen to make it to RSI, or events such as the ISEF, of course!

but also to get help from previous rickoids who have gone through the same process

RSI sent me a letter a couple of weeks ago with a brochure and an application form inviting me to apply.

I am female junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia; PSAT 232, Molecular Bio SAT II 790, GPA 4.0, President of School Cancer Research and Awareness Society. I have a research project in cancer field developing in summer and fall with my school tech lab with an intention to enter Intel or other national science competitions.

By chance I saw this forum, and I find it very interesting; there is a lot of information. I would appreciate it if someone could give me advice:

Does RSI match your project with their availabe fields?
I haven't taken the SATII Math IIC yet. Do I need to take Math IIC on Jan 22, 2005? I could do 780+, but is it too late?
I saw that the RSI acceptance ratio is around 7%..what is my chances?
Anyone else received RSI letters? Thanks.

You should take the SAT II, Alice, and have them rush the scores to CEE, only I don't know how they would do that since CEE doesn't have a little number thing. You have to go to the testing center and take it on standby. Have you ever won any science competitions before? What about math ones? I know TJHS is very competitive, so that gives you an edge. Usually there are ~2 rickoids from there, am i correct?

it's actually 4% but who's really keeping tabs. :)

everyone has a good chance if he or she applies. we're not RSI adcom so we can't tell you that. I know of one rickoid last yr from TJ.

CEE does not receive official college board scores, so you can't "rush" anything. They get your scores off your transcript usually or send a photocopy.

Alice: I think there where one or two TJHS people at RSI my year so you'd have a good chance. I don't think taking the IIC is that necessary, I didn't have anything but a PSAT score when I applied. If you got good psat math scores, you're fine. Of course, IIC couldn't hurt, but it won't make or break anything.

RSI will accept you, and THEN try to match you. They're aware of the limitations though, but in general you get accepted, then they break their backs finding you something you want to do.

Receiving a letter from RSI is GOOD! Means you have a very good chance, they're not sent out like candy.

Good luck!

There were three rickoids last year from TJ.

frakenchris, what were some of your stats when you applied to rsi?

Frankenchris1, I just looked at the copy of your siemen's paper that is on your home page, and I have to say that I found it a very enjoyable, facinating read.

dang I come to this site way to much!

Anyway... thanks schemer! It could defiantly use some improvements and the whole idea needs some work but its always great telling people I doodled all summer :-)

zogoto: baah, stats? what are these stats you speak of? :-P

Now I feel that it is only fair that I offer you the opportunity to see my research paper in return, Frankenchris1. If you or anyone else is interested, send me a message via the college confidential messaging thingy with the appropriate email address and I'd be perfectly wiling to email it.

wow schemer, you're actually volunteering your paper for us to read? I think i'll take that opportunity =)

welcome alice: thomas jefferson is SUCHH a prestigious school. every year i hear someone from there doing soemthing great, etc etc. and i received a letter too. i had not heard of RSI before they sent me a letter this year.

frankenchris: where are you from? and it's really okay if we don't have math iic? because i chickened out last year (jan of my soph year) and took math ic and only scored 760. however, my psat math's 80... so i'm not sure. and i'm with you, i come here wayyy too often. =)

statics-4%?! that's crazy... faints of no hope of admissions

is there any basis for RSI sending you a letter? I know for TASP it's based on PSAT scores. Is RSI the same?

Zogoto, Statics, Frank, Bkool, Thanks for your guys' advices.

My PSAT 232 (CR 79, M76, W77), Math curve was rough..I missed only one question. No major national competition yet except a little regional reward. Am I still better off to take Sat Math IIc on Jan 22, 2005 on standby, in normal case I should score 780+. Anyone knows the usual percentage of girls there? Thanks.

RSI's not based solely on PSAT scores. however, it's nice to have good psat scores.

Alice, you scored very well! congrats =)

wrath, what's TASP?
