It asked for principal

NEWS: 32 rickoids made it into INTEL STS SEMIFINALS.

w00t!

and just because I really love korean!

짱

짱 is good (my last name = 장 ~ 짱)
hehe
ANyway, all you Rickoids, do you remember a TANNER Amdur-Clark @ RSI 2004??
if it's true, it is all too crazy (i thought nobody even KNEW about RSI @ our school)

was he at RSI Caltech? because he sure didn't attend RSI MIT 2004

question, static of frankenchris or whomever was a past rickoid. on the app it says "$25 processing fee" and you can either check the box that you included it or there's another box beside it that says "waive the fee"

i don't know about you guys, but if that's for real and i really don't have to pay the fee.. i mean... $25 dollah ain't much but it's not as awesome as $0.

Is the waive fee thing only for the lower middle classers? or can i just check it and not pay the fee?

you need a reason why you can't pay the fee. Can't just check it off without an explanation. Last year, I checked the fee waiver box and sent them a letter saying my family makes "4,000 a year, and we're on welfare, food stamp, housing subsidies, etc."

thanks static for answering. It might have been listed inside the brochure, I'm not sure. I kinda skimmed the brochure quickly. Thanks ^___^

im really interested in doing scientific research at rsi, but my background is more liberal artsy- most of my extracurricular's are jsa (im a senator for the state) and asb vp - so im more developed in leadership and politics backgrounds. but, im taking calc ab and ap chem this year, along with honors bio, and i got a 212 on the psat and an 800 on the spanish sat 2 (a 5 on the CS AB and Spanish, and a 4 on the art history ap last year)- im taking sat 2's in chem, math 2c, and us, and the ap exams in calc ab, chem, and us. i know rsi is looking for diversity, but something tells me a kid who thinks of science as less mechanical and more of an art might not be the kind of diversity their looking for. is it worth my time to apply?

sure it is, i was just like you
i also tend to view science as more of an art and tho i always felt most interested in science, at the time i applied to rsi almost all of my ecs were in the humanities
just write good essays and let them see your passion for science

When it asks the field and subfield of research in which I want to work, do I have to know a lot about those areas?

you have to know something about it...but nowhere near a PhD

sorry but that's a bit vague?
so if i want to do electrical engineering yet know nothing about it...
and i'm really good at math/have a pretty good interest in it...

I should choose math?

I don't know if this will help, but I put virology for my first choice (I know only the basics, but am very interested in it) and organic chem for my second choice (I know a decent amount about it).

I am filling out my application and I have a question as to the essay/question portion of the application:

In question 2, it asks you do state your choices of research in which you want to research as well as 3-5 interesting questions/problems and why they are interesting to you. I'm not sure if the latter part is asking for limitations/problems/difficulties/obstacles in your field of current research or problems in the general scope of the field (personal experience, social issues, etc) ?

Alice: It's open to interpetation, people that have been accepted have done it both ways. Choose the one you like best! Either way, the purpose of the question will be fufilled :-)

altairaqua, Vintor : You need to know something about your research. Afer all you're going to be doing RESEARCH. RSI is very much a learning experience, but you need some base. However, you should put down what you love and what you want to study, not what you think would get you accepted.

Should we mention old awards that we won in our response to questions on the essay? Like I won something in Math League for sixth grade and seventh grade at Delaware, my old state. However, I wonder if that would negatively affect my appearance since I've stopped being involved in Math League when I moved to CA after seventh grade.

nah don't put stuff just to fluff your application

is #2 asking for more than one choice?

can you put two fields and two subfields down?

you can do whatever you want.
