well, it is about just problems that are interesting to you.... i whatever interests you i guess ^^

They say they want verification of standardized test scores. Does this include things like AMC and AIME and more random math contests. Also, do I need to send them certificates of science fairs and other awards I've won? ...I don't think I still have everything...

I think they'll trust you on the AIME, AMC, and science fair placings, etc.

o phew. I didn't even think about those! then again my scores are so low, it doesn't matter ^_^ (I mean they wouldn't think I lied)

then again my scores are so low, it doesn't matter ^_^ (I mean they wouldn't think I lied)
^^ aye aye hehe ^^

AMC and AIME are published on the internet (yes that means joe random in hong kong could have read your AMC scores!). Science fair placings, same thing, I'm sure they're published somewhere. Besides, its not like they need to check, rickoids are trustworthy!! :-P

(lots of these might be mentioned in teacher recs/high school transcript, so thats some more validation for you)

should ur first and second choice of field and subfield be in different fields. Is it alright if both choices are dealing with 1 field, like Physics:Theoretical (for first field and subfield) and Physics:Particle (for second field and subfield)

excalibur: yes, mine where

Ahhh I just realized something. Should I wait until Feb 1st to send my application since that is when the AMC 12A is so I can put my score on my application? If by some miracle I get a 150 or something I think that could really help my app......But then again, it is a huge risk since you are basically cutting it right next to the old deadline and so yeah what should I do. Otherwise, I will send it this Friday.

Oooo one more thing. I JUST got my USAMTS scores back, and although I did well, it is worse than I have been doing. Is it better to say on my application that I have 50/50 after two rounds or 71/75 after three rounds? The scores weren't supposed to come out until next Monday, so I think either way to report these would be OKAY but which looks better?? (BTW, for those of you who don't know, the USAMTS is a mail-in math competition in which you get 4-6 weeks to solve 5 math problems per round. Also, a 71/75 qualifies me for the AIME, so that is another plus to report it.) Thanks!

lol lucky. I have like NOTHING.
I was just wondering, do any of you alum think the "other" ECs made a difference at all, or do they just ask that on the application for the heck of it?

what do u guys think is an AMC 12 score worth mentioning to RSI

lol iono. my amc 10 from last year was low but i put it anyway...i basically put any pathetic thing i could. at least they'll get a nice laugh ;)

Should I put Math for my subfield if the questions I would have would be generic (such as millenium problems or some number theoretic functions i thought of that aren't really that interesting), even though I am better at math, rather than industrial engineering, which invovles a question that I know better than most people in the world. So the question is, esoteric vs. generic??

Clarification needed---
All forms of the appl are due on FEBRUARY 9th....Correct? Or is this just for the online version of the app? It says one one page that it was extended, but the others say Feb 1 still. I dont want to not be able to apply beacuse of this.

why don't you just postmark it by feb 1st so either way it'll get to them and they'll read it? =)

I emailed them to ask about the Feb. 9 extension. They said the app had to be recieved by Feb. 9.

To Xinerz---
Becuase I'm not done with the application yet....Okay, I havent started. I havent given my teachers the rec forms yet, and I REALLY don't want to inconvience them. :)

Yay for us late peopel Random^4. I still have a longways to go before completing my application.

Go procrastinators!!!!

Honestly, finishing the app in the last few days was what everyone had done at RSI.
