I just found out that AE is participating - what exactly do the AdCom want or seek from international applicants? and am I going to compete against AE applicants or all international applicants?

AE? Which country does that stand for? International application process is entirely different from domestic. You have to ask someone in your country, but I haven't had the slightest idea as to who I can refer to you. You can email Maite at CEE and ask her. I think you will just be competing against your own country.

lol staticsoliloquy, so if you're like one of few applicants within the country...should be good then shouldn't it? Makes you think...thank God for provincial guidance counselors...

let me make it clear to most people on CC. don't come to me like i'm some cheap college counselor that will service your need. Don't ask me stupid questions like "How can I show my passion?" "What should I do to get the upperhand?" "What can I do to show college I love so and so?"

you know what. do whatever it is you're doing. do it for its own sake. i never did research just because i thought it'd get me into a great college. i never applied to rsi just because it'd look good on my resume. if your mentality is like this, it is pretty immature.

so where did this rant come from. well a freshman IMed me and start asking me these pretty insipid questions that he has to discover for himself. This is why I took my AIM SN off CC. He doesn't know when to quit either, and I didn't have the heart to block him.

my teachers sealed the envelopes too but you can see through it
^^ but you can't read all of it. granted of course you can see through them, but it's not like you can decifer anything.

i'm sorry static... that's why underclassmen shouldn't be allowd to exist =P

I am guilty of being dumb too. Sorry static I just had so many questions and you're so knowledgable. It's all over though. I mailed my app today. :)

as the deadline nears, I hope you're all doing great! The fervent interest you guys have shown in RSI probably already puts you ahead of others. Good luck with these last few days :-)

patpat I always try to keep my silly questions to a minimum although there was that time when the answer was on the previous page and I hadn't read it... I think research just sounds so fun! wee lol, when my chem teacher was talking about this new electron microscope that can see like a fraction of an angstrom, I literally had to close my mouth to avoid drooling all over the desk _ If I just wanted to look good on paper I'd be in acadec and spend all day studying or something!

Hey on the third page of the app, where it says to check the technical skills, what should I do if I have like absolutely no experience in any computer languages? Would this qualify me in the beginner category or should I just leave all the boxes blank? Will this hurt my chances if my field is not related at all to computer programming? Also, is Algebra II the same as trigonometry (on the chart where you check the courses you've completed)?

i've only learned C++, so i checked the C++ boxes and left the others blank. since you don't know ANYTHING about ANY of the languages, it wouldn't be fair to check "beginner" because beginner means you actually know a little bit about it.

yeah, just check Alg II as trig. they're practically the same (so is precal and trig also)

I wouldn't check trigonometry if you haven't had a formal class-teaching of it. My alg II class never covered it, so before I took calc last year I just studied some trig from Schaum's. This doesn't really constitute a "trig class" so I didn't check it. And yes, I don't think that you should check "beginner" if you don't have any knowledge about it.

I hope they don't reject me because I have bad computer skills. My school kept changing the language taught at school so I have beginning in VB, intermediate in J and C++ and intermediate in LaTeX. I'm not really good at anything though :( stuipd school.

they're not going to reject you because you don't have computer skills, unless you would want to research in the computer area. i'm not interested in computers and i didnt' check anything but C++.

As the procrastinator that I am . . . I'd like to jump in and ask a few questions at the last minute before I have to send the app in. First, is it okay if one answer is significantly longer than the others? I know we're only supposed to have a couple paragraphs, but my response to #3 has kind of ended up at a little over a page. Since I tried to give a detailed description of my research experience, I'm not sure how to shorten it. Also, what should I put in the technical skills section besides computer skills (which I don't have)? Is it appropriate to talk about the math classes I've taken and stuff like that, if there isn't room on the form to list the college ones I've taken? I think that's all for now, thanks so much to static and others who have answered so many questions!

hehe also trying to decide what I should answer for where I heard about RSI, since I don't know how it would seem if I said I heard about it on cc :)
