Programs like YESS and MITES...for someone who is not a member of an underrepresented minority, is it worth applying? I know they say that all races and ethnicities are considered, but that's more of a euphemism than a statement of fact, right?

give it a shot! I saw most of the MITES04 and one of them didn't look like she was from an underrepresented group. I don't know anything about YESS, except that someone I know claims its awesome. Its possible you could get in... but don't bank on it =P

on another topic: Wow! you goes all have these great RSI alternatives, if I hadn't gone I probably would have laid around and taken dumb classes... Good for all of you!

I just hope I get into something. lol otherwise I'll feel rather doomed for about 5 minutes.
ya John Mack is pretty good. he retired from cleveland.

no i didn't apply to CCIS this year. I want to do something new this summer after 2 summers of conducting research.

Shawshank, will you be completing a project or will you just be there for the experience?

(random tangent) Now that the app deadline has passed, the OR thread is catching up to us! ::gasp::

what's OR???
lol I want to do something different this summer after spending 3 summers doing music >_<

Static

Thanks for replying

The professor who offered me this oppurtunity was very impressed by my work. In fact, he is encouraging me to compete in the INTEL and/or SIEMENS_WESTINGHOUSE science competitions.

Besides competing, i hope to develop a very strong foundation and understanding of research.

By the way, next summer i plan to travel throughout various places in the world. Hope u have a great time this summer.

What type of AMC score would be worth sending in as extra info? I was told today that I was the school high-scorer, but my score rally wasnt very high considering that it was the highest in the school.

Are you sure RSI wants any extra information after the application deadline? If one is trying to demonstrate math acumen, reporting any AIME-qualifying score (above 100 on the AMC 12) seems worthwhile, but most worthwhile is to follow the program's directions, I fear.

Around a 100 probably isn't worth mentioning... Just remember that RSI is ran by real people, you can tell them about all the stuff you want. I wouldn't recommend it though, unless its something you simply cannot left unsaid and would not be expected of you based on other things... For almost all cases, I wouldn't.

But do whatever you guys want =)

Is it possible for them to consider extra info sent after the deadline as a negative?

well, do you think it'll make it or break it for ya?

Who knows? I'd send something if there was any possibility it would help.

when i turned in the rsi appl., it was before my math2c results came in. and now that they have, i want them to see it. should i just assume that they'll check up on it on their own or should i send over the scores?

ahh what's this concern about scores...

i've countlessly remind you guys. it's not a big factor. Seeing a 1600 or 800 on the SAT II isn't going to impress them.

They accept passion, not scores.

How could they check it on their own?

Out of curiosity, how did you do?

it's not exactly a "score" thing, it's more of a "i don't feel competent maybe this'll boost things up a bit because my psat scores are blah"

intelliot - 800 x.x' it was luck. and don't the ppl have access to the scores through collegeboard or something?

no, they don't! don't mention it.. SCORES DON'T MATTER...(to a large degree)

lol good cuz all my scores are low low low

does anyone else here hope to make it to the ISEF as a junior?
