Research Science Institute 2005

I believe they seperate it by country. I think if a country represents itself in RSI, then RSI should pick someone from there. Anyhow, I hope you guys get in. Good Luck!

woah... so you're like... middle eastern! =) that's really really awesome good luck to you! wait, no, i take that back. i need it more than you =P

ًًI'm not really from the UAE, by the way. It took them so long to know if I'm eligible or not (they were contacting the state department and the US embassy here to confirm). But eventually, it worked out and I was eligible to apply. I'm originally from Iraq, but I live here.

And as for your "Good Luck" comment, yeah you need it more. The number of applicants from the USA is like what, 1500? So you guys have a 5% acceptance rate. I think, from the UAE alone, 20 or so are applying. USA Citizens here are not counted as UAE applicants, I guess (they apply the same way you do).

See ya until then.

oh, but my needing luck i meant that i myself needed luck just cause my stats and essays aren't as great as the others (it was a degrading comment to myself, not because of statistics) although.. you are right. the us does have a smaller acceptance rate than international applicants (dangit, why couldn't i have snuck into mexico or something =P)

oo, can i ask why'd you move to UAE? (does it hafto do with the war?)

Nah, my Dad moved to the UAE 20 years ago, and I was born here. I went to Iraq 9 years ago, and loved it. :-)

But hey, can't we get our own edge now? Every single college limits its international enrollment, but RSI gives us an edge! Wheew! :-D

Gotta leave to school in 5 mins (7:20 AM here), see ya.

i think rsi should give the edge to female taiwanese tennesseans, not internationals =P

are you interested in attending college in the united states? like, are you gonna still app to UAE colleges also ?

i think RSI should give the edge to male indian californians...:)

eh, good thing is RSI treats every applicant equally and it's purely merit based (except geographically some get an advantage, but not that much)

wait, why are you international if you live here? do you have another citizenship? >_< that means if there weren't a lot of people applying from Japan, I could have done that! then again, Japanese high school students are waay more competative than I am...
lol no. they should give preference to people of more than one race!

I have a question about last year.. Were the decisions really announced early? And how long does it take for the decisions to get to us living abroad??? Anyone think the same thing will happen this year???

bluephish,

I never said they prefer certain races over other ones! They pick 75 from the USA, and I think one from each participating country (35 from all over the world?). That's it! You're the most qualified here? You're in! If I was living in India, where hundreds of people apply to RSI, then the competition will be fierce. So it really depends, bluephish.

That said, I will be competing against the ones applying from the UAE, and that's all! I am not living in the USA.

I hope that cleared things up. I apologize if I caused any confusion, or said anything offensive.

xinerz,

Yeah, I am willing to apply to colleges in the USA. One of the reasons I anticipate going to RSI for is to get to see and feel the environment and culture in the USA. If I don't get into any college in the USA, or don't recieve enough aid, I'll stay here.

wrathofgod64,

Yeah, RSI is pure meritocracy. Neither do I think that I'm going to get in nor do I feel I'm the only one qualified here.

Anyways, I just came from school. I hope all the contributors to this thread get in, and we all get to see each other next June!

See ya until then! ;-)

anyone know in the past if non-genius level intelligent people get in by any chance?
because im overall very smart - excellent sat, excellent hs, excellent grades, excellent research experience
but i am in no way close to genius...i dont know any theoretical physics or stuff
i practically consider myself a dumbass compared to those of you here that applied but do u think i still may have at least some chance?
or do they only accept geniuses

no one knows who they'll accept.... we'll all just hafto wait >_>

Haha xinerz, I can feel you're getting anxious.

ivybound, I am not that far in physics either. . . Physics C (mechanics) for me.

i just want my rejection letter to confirm my beliefs, that is all.

i hate going through this misery

yes, i'm with xinerz -- they need therapy sessions or something (not seriously...)

woah. h88, your post like, disappeared like magic magic

relax? i'm sick....... blows snot outta nose

o man i'm sick too...it just kill my 4 day weekend! :(

"or do they only accept geniuses"
i got in and I'm pretty dumb.

how come all you kids have 4 days weekends when i only have a 3 day weekend??? pouts

i guess (from what i've heard) they take the kids that show the most interest in researching by reading their essays.... hopes that my essays showed that i really wanted to research with them

well it's over for me then isn't it..... x.x'

Hah, I have a 5-day weekend.
