So who here is completely nervous about the regional ISEF qualifying fair? I mean...I've got nothing.

slowly raises hand

Our school sucks...apparently they didn't build any boards for us. So now we will have to acquire carpentry skills too.

uh. my school doesn't knwo what science fair is.

all our participants have always made our own boards or have someone do it for us... stop complaining =P

lol it's kinda cruel to say you got in and like give people heart attacks. I agree with the "get a life boy" statement :)
lol I'm not nervous. my nonexistent project and I are doing great.
I thought you had to do your own board lol. why would your school make it out of wood for you?

um, why would it be hard to glue paper to a piece of foldable cardboard?
All i know that I'm I'm competing with only 3 other CS projects, and thus I hope to be an ISEF attendee.

Its funny, but one of the seniors in my school was accepted to the second round even though he wasn't around to present his project at the first round.

http://www.nyas.org/pdfs/05_semifinal.pdf

guess who I am (if you figure it, give me the title)

On the Conversion of Mutually Recursive Functions to their Fixed Point and Other Transformations on a Scheme Subset

it helps when there are only 6 other comp sci entries, haha

and that only one is by a junior and it had the word "scheme"

You are seriously making your board out of cardboard? Our teachers would fail us if we did that. They gave us all these specifications for the wooden boards, the backing, molding, and carpeting, etc. They just won't build it for us. Alas! I can't complain too much. Our school has agreed to reimburst us for all the material fees.

stop complaining! my school cares nothing whatsoever about projects. good luck to all! mine's not until april 2nd so i have all of my 2 spring break weeks to complete mine phew

Wowww don't complain, my school doesn't say anything till the week before the competition, make you build your own presentation, then if you don't win they get mad

lol styrofoam boards can be really nice, you know. Our school has a lot of state winners and people who win stuff at ISEF and they mainly go with regular styrofoam boards...

heh. and my school doesn't even know what ISEF is (thank goodness for CC!).

hey, new to cc. wow, this is a long thread.
i applied to rsi too. sort of having an issue right now, which i'm communicating with cee. i realized i was supposed to include an additional copy of the application separate from the original after completely reading through the brochure just recently. (I didn't at first, because i thought the website included everything). so, i'm hoping they will allow me to send in the copy.

staticsoliloquy, while i'm waiting for their response, what do you think about this? what if they say no?

So you have to send 2 copies of your application?

well, yo'ure supposed to send the original and then make a photocopy of that and staple it and attach it behind your original.

Gotcha, that's what I did. (:

This is what it said:
"The complete set of application materials must be mailed from the high
school to the Center for Excellence in Education in an envelope large
enough to accommodate an original unfolded application. [Please do not
staple or fold the pages of the application.] Please enclose the original
application and a stapled photocopy. Applicants must follow the instructions
to ensure the completion of each part of the application. Applicants who
do not conform to the requirements will not be considered."

i'm sure it'll be fine (i think) from discussion, the appliees seem to think that decisions come out in two weeks, so i don't think it would really affect anything? but i'm not experienced enough to help you with this, i'm sorry
