Research Science Institute 2006

umm i got a 2280 on the psats is that low?

my gpa was horrible though, like a 93 or something

93 is pretty good considering a tough workload. I mean if you were taking 4+ APs, then a 93 is a good average, but I guess averages also go relative to other students who have similar workloads...

2280 was lower than the average, I guess....but it isn't low at all, IMO.

I was 229. I think that's about the RSI average.

Chill, it's not over until the CEE sends you a rejection letter.

"Do people ever get in with lower stats?"

"^^^ Of course, but they got in with other outstanding credentials.
I think staticsoliloquy (sp?) had a 206, but he was heading his own project in a hospital..."

so what were some of the others' "outstanding credentials"?

Ummm...I have no idea....i can only say what Rickoids on the CC threads have said...

I would guess that other "outstanding credentials" would include other amazing research that isn't necessarily recognized in science fairs and whatnot.

I'm not too sure, but having research with like NASA, i guess....

Well I did research with MIT this summer...

Does RSI care if your verbal score is, .... well, low but not horrible if you have a decent math score?

I did a siemens project this year(i'm working on it more), and I've started a new project on material sciences.

My courseload this year is:

AP Chem
AP Physics C
American Studies(like English + APUSH double block)
Multivariable Calculus
Intro Spanish(I've taken 3 years of french already, don't ask :p)
Linear Algebra from Stanford EPGY
Research Computer Science(I started this course here, so I'm guinea pig!)
Possibly Research Chem(if I can handle workload)

I did some research at my local university over the summer.
I have a good chess engine I wrote(not sure if this helps.).

I have 4 Ap's so far, and will be national scholar.

How do I stand? I got grades for first trimester, but I don't have to send them I believe(transcript doesn't hvae grade, since the courses are 2 trimesters).

AP Chem B+
AP Physics C A-
American History - A-
Intro Spanish - A-

Not very nice...

Should I send in my grades?

I'm not sure what to do about that. You'll have to trust yourself, but I don't know if hiding anything from RSI is wise. Your coursework is impressive. I had roughly the same as you when I applied, as well. Do you have 4 APs already or at the end of this year?

already

AP Calc BC and AB (self study, 5/5)
AP CompSci AB - 5(pseudo self study)
AP Physics B - 5
AP Statistics - 4

That's good lol all I had was a 5/5 on BC/AB.

oh yeah!!!!!!.....yeah...i only have a 5 on human geo....:(

What about me?

Me- Junior at Phillips, Andover, parents from Middle East, live in MA

Courses
Junior English
Third Year French
Organic Chemistry
AP Physics
Multivariable Calc

Organic Chem is a one term course, so I'm replacing it with Molec Bio Research next term.

EC's (Just the major ones)

Cross Country
Track
Math Club (a bunch of competitions)
Science Club (placed 1st in school science bowl)
Mock Trial (co-founder and co-president, this will be our first year)
Summer job at a small company, helped them make a website, isn't much though

I'm guessing my PSATs were something like high 60s/lows 70s verbal, 80 math, low-mid 70s writing. My SAT II (IIC and Chem) are both 800's. I took the Chem and BC APs, all 5's.

I can definetly get great rec's.

How do I stand?

I honestly have no idea mathwhiz...Your state is academically uber- competitive and I personally know some pretty amazing juniors at your school with regards to math/science that can probably trump the smartest kids in most of the other states. For you at least, the enemy definitely lies within....;)

I'll take that as a good thing...... ;)

Was anyone at RSI'05 from Andover?

I'm pretty sure there was no one from Andover.

Exeter? Any of the hardcore private schools?

Nobody from Andover or Exeter, at least.
