Research Science Institute 2007

Iteloo, do you realize that "RSI is open to students who have completed the third year of high school, or the equivalent. . . ." http://rsi.cee.org/rsi/index.shtml

mmm RSI applicants...wootness...

i didn't get in, but good luck to you peeps...

And, btw, they reject some amazing people...people who have placed high at Intel and Siemens, so don't worry if you're rejected

They rejected a USA Today Academic All-High School first team member also...

But, from what i hear, it's a great program and very enjoyable...good luck

Actually, I did read that it is for 3rd year high school, but my friend told me that there are sophs that were accepted b4. I just wanna make sure.

sr6622 is right, rsi rejects many really awesome people. a girl who had one of the top three projects at isef was rejected from rsi, and went to a program in florida instead, and at that program she did her isef winning project.

i think it's really better to wait until the end of your junior year to apply. there isn't any reason to apply end of sophomore year. rsi wants you to enter your project into contests like siemens and sts, and you can't as a junior. plus, another year, gives you more time to buff up your resume :D!

not to break your heart iteloo, but unless you have an IMO gold medal or proved goldbach's conjecture, sophmores are usually rejected. I only heard of one sophomore who got in RSI and he was graduating early because he had already won IMO.

thx everyone. i was just asking cuz i hav no chance whatsoever to get in anyway even if i wait til next year... very little people around me support my initiative and im not that talented either. gd luck to all the ppl applying this year.

Wow the RSI '07 thread is here! Too bad the title is messed up haha. It doens't matter though. Don't start another one. Besides, about 10-15 of people who read this thread at some point will go to RSI and they can all have a good laugh. By the way, I'm RSI '05, so I'll be around to answer any questions you priori might have. rsi06, who are you? I have heard of a lot of 06'ers, so maybe I've heard your name before?

This thread brings back memories.

Haha, research social institute, research sketchy institute, research summer institute, who cares?! i just noticed the thread, got really excited, and still haven't read it all, so rsi06----who are you???

Oh okay so my story: My SAT/PSAT scores were not so hot, no awards (unless you count the intimidating Top 50 on state math contest lol), and no major research experience. I also misspelled "biology" and "believe"...twice (biolgy and belive)! (But that was because it was like 3 am and i was trying to finish the app on time, and they extended the deadline the day i turned it in gah, so beware, procrastinators.)

Anyway, maybe you can decipher something from my experience, like don't stress about scores and such. So good luck and stay optimistic! :)

We have our PSAT wednesday so I am a little nervous. I know scores are not everything but I dont want to make myself look bad lol

seriously, don't stress about your psat/sat scores. I think CEE recommends that you get a 2200+ on the sat but if you dont make it there don't be discouraged. you should still apply because i know some people(including) who got in with scores way lower. just like make sure your essays convey your passion for science or math- and that doesnt necessarily have to come from research. i didn't have awards in anything...so i thought i wouldn't get in but w/e

Yeah and just know that writing essays for RSI is waaaayyyy easier than writing essays for college grrrrrr

yeah no kidding =p

straight up corina. with rsi essays, they tell you what they want you to write, but with college, it's just an abstract box for you write about the essence of you in 500 words <--brutal.

best piece of advice is to not procrastinate, but i know that you all will because i certainly did. I talked to chatty after we turned in our siemen's paper, and it turned out that both of us arrived at the post office minutes before it closed and had to shell out like $10 to have our papers overnighted.

btw zogoto, how's mit?

yinyinyinyinyin did you submit your rsi project for siemens?

wow. this is a really slow trend. i guess ccers aren't are interested in rsi this year. tear.

i'll be applying to rsi this year....have had about 3-4 years research experience/competitions....isef....jshs, etc

my psat will probably suck though....i hope i broke 200 lol

hopefully ACT will make up....probably gonna get 34+......meh

i have several backups in case i don't get in though...

siemens results come out in 1 hour right? lol i cant wait

oh yeah...i entered siemens too

eagerly waiting for the results lol

and i'm guessing u mean 9-11 eastern? in that case they'll be out by the time i wake up....haha i really hope i'm a semi finalist...then again im in the western region...

by my count fourteen rickoids were semifinalists; not bad given that many people didn't enter. congrats to all :D
