Research Science Institute 2007

When are the applications going to be available online? And do you guys know of any other summer opportunites similar to RSI?

I read somewhere in here that they're up December. SSP is an alternative, and state governors school in science if your state has one. Those are the two others I will apply to.

Hey Marie, Yo-yo, Geoff, etc!

P^2

Congrats do all the '06 Rickoids doing Siemens and good luck to them at their regional competitions!

It says on the website the application would be available in November, well it's not, yet. Can someone let me know when the application would be available?

someone mentioned December before.

So I guess the essay is the deciding factor for most applications, since the 1000+ applications that RSI is receiving will have similar uber doom academic status and extra curriculars.

Can you make RSI without research experience? Essentially, is it even worth the time spent applying if I haven't done any independent research?

you should definitely try out for rsi. it doesn't just take people with research experience. write good responses to the essay questions, get a good psat score, express an interest in science, and you have a shot. rsi looks for research potential more than experience.

When do they post the applications? I'm getting a tad anxious checking the site everyday.

As am I. Does anyone have any idea when the application comes out?

I'd like to at least start thinking about the essays and get the recommendations to my teachers ASAP.

Of the people applying to RSI, are any of you also applying to things like SSP, WTP, etc., in case you don't get in?

The applications is like the same thing every year. I guess last year's isn't up though. Just start thinking about some research questions.

The applications are posted! Joy!

hmm...the application asks for 2 recommendation letters...but I have 4 people in mind for the recommendation. Would it be detrimental to send all 4 or should I choose 2?

filletwho, nope. though i do know one person who sent 4 and did not get in, while i sent 2 and did. but then again, i know somebody who sent 4 and got in. anyway. it's hard to tell who's in the pictures in the rsi brochure.

don't worry about recs too much, i think that the selection process mainly focuses upon your responses to the essay questions. i'm pretty sure my recs weren't stellar as my math teacher wrote that two words to describe me were happy and bright. awfully nice of her to do so, but those words hardly make for a memorable rec.
btw, corina. one of the pic is karis playing foosball, a group of us one picture day, and the last one is of the people who did the death hike. they're cute :D

Do you think I still have a good chance of getting in with a sophomore PSAT score of 161 (and a freshman score of 162!)?

My school requires us to take it two times during school hours prior to actually taking it as a junior. I did not care, and viewed it as a state test. Also, I really did not know much. I believe that I did well on the PSAT that I recently took, though. I actually tried this time. Prior to the most recent test, I thought that it did not count.

Ignoring my excuses, if I answer the questions very well and am able to attain great recs, do you think I can get in?

Or, should I spend more time on other applications?

I just got the brochure in the mail
I had never heard about RSI and CEE
but I am quite interested now

I am definitely going to apply
My grades are down--I cannot stand HS
but I have good ACT's and recs
and a passion for mathematics/actuarial field
34 Math
33 RDG
only
29 ENG and
25 SCI tho

Which test scores would I need to send in, and how would I do it (ie - photocopy via mail, etc.)?

i think i just wrote my test scores on the app. i don't remember it asking for proof.

as vanilea said, do they ask for proof for the scores? What prevents people from lying?
