Just a quick, sort of irrelevant question- I got an RSI brochure in the mail, and I think that they use high PSAT scores to develop their mailing list. In the catalog, it says that they are looking for students with a PSAT of 220 or above. Does this mean I scored over 220? (haven't gotten my scores yet)

There's a reason RSI is coed.

Or be asked to make out publicly to instruct the next year's Rickoids (during a scavenger hunt...)

I wonder if admission rates to RSI (and college, for that matter) are inversely proportional to how much time is spent (aka wasted) on CC?

I would hope it would be directly related...
:)

princessbell....I'd hoped that getting the mailing was a good sign. For a short period of time, you could see your PSAT scores on College Board, if you had PSAT results there from last year. We checked D2's scores, since her high school is still holding the results (I think CB has fixed that "hole" now). Although I'm sure you did well, it's not a guarantee. D2 got a 210 on the PSAT and got the mailing (and unfortunately we don't live in the 10 states in the US that would make her NMF qualified!).

I got a 235 on the PSAT but I got nada...and I'm a URM....

I got 226 on the PSAT and I also got the mailing. Maybe it has to do with your math score? Or maybe last year scores? Or even your prospective major? Who knows..

system error

Both this year and last year I got an 80 on math and my declared major is in science. I don't think getting a pamphlet means much, but it would have been a nice gesture.

Don't read too much into not getting a pamphlet. It's just there to inform you that the opportunity is available. If you already know about RSI, whether you get the pamphlet or not means nothing (although I think there is a correlation between getting the pamphlet and being offered a full scholarship to RSI, should you be accepted later).

I do think you have a better-than-average chance though. ecneics bears a close resemblance to 'eugenics,' and there you already have "username" and "eugenics" checked on your application. Two of three down!

Yeah... I highly highly doubt it means anything.

Hmm, that's strange. The directors told us that NO ONE who's received one of those brochures has ever gotten in.

JUST KIDDING.

Don't worry one way or another about brochures. I never got one though I had perfect math and was over 23 and I got in.

I'm so confused about this full scholarship guys though ... I must be missing something.

In case any of you applicants don't know this, RSI is offered free to ALL applicants.

I got the brochure, and i just barely made a 220.

has anyone actually scored just a 220 and made it in?
(i would assume it's possible, bur probably very very hard)

eh, it's worth a shot.

Full scholarship? As opposed to what?

Read and understand.

CEE: Research Science Institute Introduction

Good luck to this year's applicants.

I didn't get a pamphlet, but my research teacher did. As I find it somewhat unlikely that he scored at all on last year's PSAT, I would say that you should care way more about what you scored on the PSAT than whether or not you received a pamphlet.

It really doesn't make sense to draw conclusions from anecdotally-discovered correlations. It's not good science. Just saying.

I'm pretty sure this is not the case. One reason is that PSAT scores are not available in time to develop the mailing list, and another is that access to the College Board's database is extremely expensive. Last I heard, the mailing list is drawn from a variety of sources like science fair registrations, teacher nominations, and state departments of education (grade-level achievement tests). As others have noted, teachers are a big part of the mailing list, and they don't take the PSAT.

There were people on other RSI threads that made it and got like 208 and 209.

Does anyone know if RSI still uses really strict regional quotas? Because I kept hearing about these somewhere, but I haven't seen anyone mention them at all on this thread.
