and international research awards

well i don't have any of that. All i have is a $10,000 grant from mit +another $2,000 grant from MIT, to work on a project with a few of my friends. Which compared to some of these people, is nothing,

and to others, like me, is plenty lol

if this RSI thing doesnt work out, do you all think research at a summer program > research with a mentor that you find yourself?
to me it seems like they would both be equal...but idk.

haha yeah um... A-Card.. I think you've got more than most of us :)

I'm applying with basically nothing but love for what I want to study.

yeah dude Invent teams is def. better that what I have..lol

ahhh so discouraging lol, seeing so many people even just on this board who stand a better chance than me xD

well... i guess the best chance still happens to those who show their passion... im not a rickoid, so dun take my word for it either ><

do they take kids that arent already accomplished researchers (i.e. pretty much no research experience outside of the classroom)?

Yes, they do.

Would it be worth it to apply (217 PSAT (76 Math) junior year)? If I take Math Ic and Math IIC in Feb and get 800s, will that help my case (will those scores reach there on time)? Would it be worth it to take them? I only have taken the PSAT; are any other tests required?

You only need PSATs.

Taking the SAT in feb? Thats sacreligious.
lol. Naw seriously, they offer the SAT in feb?

Does anyone know (for #2) if we're restricted to the given fields and subfields?
I'm interested in Bio for sure, but not really neuroscience... can i have it as bio and ... genetics, let's say?

Also the 3-5 questions are regarding the actual fields (not the subfields as well) right? thanks.

questions 3-5 have nothing to do with fields and sub-fields do they?

i meant the 3 to 5 "most interesting" questions/problems related to the fields.

oh i see. my bad

so for #2 you shouldn't get too technical? are they general questions or supposed to be specific? do they have to be about topics that has never before been discussed (meaning you have to think about your own research questions) or you can use questions currently being researched about?

haha its interesting how this thread has more views than TASP's, but less posts.

Wait what? the research questions only relate to the fields? That would pretty much rule out having your field be the same for both choices then...since if both were Biology, all the questions would just come from Biology...

@ MITdude - I'd like to see what the answer to your questions are as well. Original research questions would necessarily entail some pretty specific things wouldnt it? But if its supposed to be general...not sure why research on #2 would help then. Idk

What kind of long range goals are you guys putting down for number 1?? kinda a vague question

same problem as tjan...so vague!

Is it possible to submit research papers in the application? I have two and I think the second would really distinguish myself.

I have also heard that RSI tends to accept one person from each state. So if I am the most qualified junior in my state (in science and mathematics) do I have a high chance of getting in?
