I have another question. It’s about the 50 dollar fee waive thing. Do most people pay or do most people waive the fee?

Well, you see, I just know this from going on past threads that there’s usually students from many different parts of the US. This could work itself out on its own (likely) or it could be purposeful. So no one really knows. I mean, CA is one of the biggest states so there’s bound to be more than average amount of students from there anyway.

Someone should really make an RSI acceptance thread where accepted ppl post their stats. That would be extremely helpful.

Hmm, I made a post in the wrong part of College Confidential before I stumbled on this thread; so um, if someone doesn’t mind taking 5-10 minutes out to at least give me a quick “chance” post given my supplied credentials, here it is:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/844382-really-selective-institute-rsi.html

haha HELL yeah baby! altho ive heard they do take more than 1 from those really dense states

Can we list where each person on this thread is from then to get an idea of the distribution?

hey also, last year RSI said that they would mail out decisions on March 31, but they actually sent them out as early as February 21 simply because they finished early. Check the 2009 thread if you want to see for yourself. Everyone was shocked at how early they came out… over a month early!

Do you think the same could happen for us?

@ att

damn. okay, this will be my last post guys :P

and @ enigma

i would like to know by feb… but the time it gets here tho, it’ll be march. ugh. do they ever contact electronically?

Hey for other summer programs to apply for. What are good ones? SSP is one right? Doesn’t that focus on astronomy?

haha…I’m such a music freak. I’m guessing most people in this thread are. From my experience, most of my friends and acquaintances who are obsessed with science are also obsessed with music. That doesn’t work the other way around though.

hey guys, who’s paying the 50 dollars and who’s being cheap?

LOl yea, whats up with that… do they seriously give us the option to pay

i mean, whats the incentive to pay them if they themselves dont seem to care

Last year they took two from New Jersey, and a friend of mine that did it last year told me that they took more than one from the really intense states :P

Meh I’m waiving the fee but my family is not that well off so…

As I’m editing my application, it feels like something I don’t want to read through. Does anyone else get a similar feeling reading through theirs?

The money goes towards paying them to read all of these applications, and I feel like they deserve some sort of award for that, in my opinion. Also, I feel like, I can afford to pay it, so I should, cause it has to cover other people who can’t spare the cash. And it’s just feels like the right thing to do.

jw are we allowed to put engineering as a research field? say mechanical or electrical or something of that sort?

LetItRock, I’m pretty sure you are…at least I am.

Ha! Best feeling in the world…finding out you’re a little better than you thought you were…I was digging through my closet and whack in my face is a binder with certificates and stuff that my mom stored. Apparently I got a math award last year that I didn’t know about (hehe…I skipped commencement…oops…they mailed the certificate while I was on vacation)! And I forgot that I participated in a bajillion math competitions 8th grade…and won? They sent in certificates I didn’t even know about! Who knew? I didn’t!

I’m not sure if we’re supposed to include any achievements from before high school…

I have a question about reporting awards before high school

In 8th grade, I qualififed to the young discovery science competition and placed top 20, is that a notable achievement, or not?

Its not exactly ISEF, but for junior highers it is/was the national competition you qualify for through state competitions

Should we just write the essays about what we topics we want to do research on, or should it be like an actual formal research proposal?
