Research without experience?

In my physics lab class, my teacher handed out flyers with intern/research opportunities if we were interested. I took one to see what it was about, and it was for biological and chemical engineering projects.
Honestly, I haven’t taken any biology or chemistry classes and I never really thought about doing anything with those fields.
At the end of class she talked to me and asked about the flyer. I told her I was unsure right now, and when she asked what I planned on majoring in I said civil engineering, which is kind of the opposite of this anyway.
After I said that, though, she said that this would be perfect! And that it is great to see what all is out there. She kind of confused me because I know nothing about these subjects, obviously, and I didn’t think that it would be a perfect match at all.
But she said that it would be totally awesome if I thought about it because they need women and also because it is great to do something out of your field.
So I decided to look at the projects and I have no clue what any of them are about… They are heavy in chemistry and I have never taken a chemistry course in college so I don’t understand how I’d be successful or why she thought I would be…
It seems kind of interesting though, but I feel like everyone who applies will be prepared.

Should I go for it? Is it a good idea to go for things completely out of your field?
They pay for housing and give you a stipend of $450 a week. That would be totally amazing. It is for 9 weeks in the summer, and a local university is the main provider.
