Hey guys, I was wondering if there are any ways for me to get research opportunities for when I am a junior in high school next year. I would like to do it during the school year, if possible and in environmental science. How should I approach this? Btw, I live in New Jersey
I would start by talking to your guidance counselor and perhaps the teachers of the subjects in which you’d like to do research.
In my (admittedly limited) experience, the high schoolers I know who have done research, got their positions because they had family or personal connections. Despite that, I would still encourage you to keep looking. DD has a high school teacher known for connecting his best students with lucrative local tech jobs, so you never know what resources might be open to you until you start to ask around and explore a bit.
@Groundwork2022 I am taking APES next year and my teacher is very interested in the environment. I’m going to ask her a little into next year about any nearby research opportunities.
I want to do research on plants. Do u think I should look at big research schools near me (Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Rutgers, NJIT, Stevens, etc.) and see if I can assist in any research on plants any of them might be doing? I know the Ivy League might have separate programs for research, but I just wanna know.
