I was wondering what are the ways freshmen can get involved in the lab? I saw how Intro to research 93/94 required 3 semesters of bio, so that must be geared towards sophomores. So do freshmen ever get in a lab/do research? Any past experiences here?

One of my suitemates last year started working in a lab as a workstudy, and then she was offered to work for them during the summer. I don’t really know the specifics as to what exactly she did, but as an entry-level work study I don’t think she was able to do much. However, she was able to do more when she worked for the lab during the summer. My suggestion is to ask the professors–they have profiles on the bio department website which show what research they’re doing, and usually like having the extra help, if needed.

It’s difficult to get paid work in a lab until you have experience working in a lab, most commonly through classes.
You can also apply to be a research assistant for various projects that go on, and if you bond with a particular professor, you can do the Summer Scholars program, where they pay you $3500 (tax-free!) to do research over the summer.
