I know a lot of 6/7/8 yr med programs like to see you have some research experience (which I think would be a great experience to have). I know a lot of people on CC have done some research. How do you get the research opportunity in the first place? Do you contact professors in the area and ask them if you can do a research project with them or are there any programs that you can apply to to do a research project with a college professor?

i think rsi is one

Yea, can some one help me too b/c i didn't realize research was important till this summer. and since this i'm going to be a senior, i'm hoping to find a quick research opportunity.

One of my friends just e-mailed the professors at local colleges and just asked around, so granted, it wasn't some earth-shattering oppurtunity, but she got some experience

Do colleges prefer to see you work on a professor's project or work on your own project with the help of a professor? Or does it really not matter?

Anyone know?

I think that most of the people that do research have like connections.

Obviously, it would be much better if you can design and work on your own project. Good luck getting a professor to put aside his/her own project to work on a freshman or sophomore's project.
