Hey guys, they just emailed our residence assignments to us.
I’m in Shields Warren Towers (Tower C) on the 11th floor :)

I’m in Warren, floor 16, tower C. I’m in a triple. I didn’t even realize they had those. If anybody knows anything about that, PLEASE message me. Is it just one room with three of everything? Are they bigger or converted? Or is it like suite style? Please help!

I’ve been assigned to the (10th) floor of Rich Hall. Does anyone know how the rooms are numbered on the West Campus dorms? My room number begins with a 10, but I’m not sure if that means 1st or 10th floor.

Anyone know where there are PDFs of the floor plans for each building?

Did you check the BU website? There’s usually a floorplan for each residence.

In any case, looks like I’m going to be in 575 Commonwealth, Floor 5 for my freshman year.

Hi, my daughter will be a freshman this fall and was assigned to the towers on Bay State Road. Are there other freshman in this dorm? It was not even in the top 5 she wrote down for her preferences. Plus at admitted student day and orientation they told her that most kids either get their first or second choice. She is enrolled at CGS so she was hoping for west dorms. Is there any chance of getting this changed? Help!!!

Hello friends and congratulations on your new residence assignments.

I’m a current Junior here at BU. I suppose I’ll address some of your concerns.

These Warren triples are considerably bigger than the doubles you may have seen on the tour/website. No its not suite style, its just a big room. You do get your own private desk and closet. They used to be quads when I was around so you’re comparatively lucky.

Its the tenth floor. The first floor is not a residential floor. I don’t believe the pdfs for the floor plans are available online. They certainly are on campus, however.

Please relax Mom! First of all, since your daughter is in CGS its possible that she is in the CGS house on Bay State. What is the address given? Is it 116-168 Bay State Road? If it is CGS House shes lucky- that’s a great environment with only CGS students and an ample number of freshmen, as well as upperclassmen who have gone through the CGS curriculum. If its not, let me know.

Hi Gladken, thanks for you quick response! It’s actually my daughter who was upset because once everyone got their assignments today a lot of kids posted on facebook what their dorm was and not one other person had the same as her. She thought there were no freshman in that particular dorm. In the email it says the Towers at 140 Bay state road. I said to her their must be other freshman there but what you are saying is very reassuring. I will pass the info on to her. Thank you very much.

westie22, I apologize I completely misread your post.

The Towers is a large dormitory-style residence, not a house on bay state road! It is very much like Warren Towers/West in that there are huge amounts of freshman and a good amount of sophomores there. It has a study lounge as well as a smaller dining hall. I’m really sorry for the confusion. CGS house is actually 166-168 Bay State.

However, it looks like your daughter might have a bit of a walk to class everyday. Its about half a mile to the College of General Studies from Towers. She may want to consider investing in a bicycle.

No problem Gladken. We had looked up the residences on the BU website and saw that it was fairly big. We just weren’t sure how many freshman and/or CGS students there were there. We are still wondering though if it is possible to change to west or even warren at this point. Do a lot of students not get one of there top 3 choices?

Hey i got the Bay State Road Brownstones. Can anybody tell me more about this dorm?

Our daughter got assigned a quad on Buswell. It is a specialty house but was like her 5th choice or something. We looked on google maps and it says it is a 13 minute walk to CFA but it looks further than that. Does anyone know anything about the size of these quads, which dining hall she will eat in, what is is like there, safety? Everything I read about south campus for freshman is negative.

To the person living in South. It’s actually a nice area to live in, the only problem is having active housemates. Most people in South are Juniors and Seniors and normally keep to themselves, but your daughter will most likely make friends and just chill at their places. It’s literally what all my friends from south did for the school year (I lived in Warren) She can either eat at Warren Towers orrrrr, the new Dining Hall by Hojo/Shelton. The walk from south to west campus is true, it’s around 15 minutes. But once you get used to doing it, it will become a lot faster plus CFA is closer than the other stuff on West. And South is really safe actually, considering there is a main road right next to it, and a T-Stop. Plus the area is filled with tons of restaurants and stores not clothing more like groceries and what not

Yo Ipod, Bay State brownstones are gorgeous, they are just recently renovated most of them I think and it’s basically like having a studio apartment without a kitchen. They are normally doubles or triples, if you get a triple you are lucky they are HUGE like REALLY HUGE. Bay State is also gorgeous, you are literally right next to the charles and you have the esplanade right by you. Idk what school you are in but CAS and SMG are literally a 3 minute walk, and you have access to Warren and the new Dining hall by Hojo.

It isn’t suite style so you still have communal bathrooms, however there is a bathroom for each floor, and there are about 3 rooms on each floor so it isn’t too crazy, plus you can always run upstairs or downstairs and use another bathroom!

Thanks for the info lalaz1000. The brownstones sounds really awesome, so guess i got pretty lucky then, though its a shame i wont get a kitchen. I am in CAS, so thats why i put Bay State as the my second choice. I didnt get my first choice, which was the east campus apartments, but hey i am not gonna complain. Anyways from what ive heard, the brownstones definitely sounds really cool.

Hey lalaz1000, i just checked my housing address in the bu housing website. Rather than being under the category of small dormitories, it showed up under the category of apartment styled residence. So i am a little confused, did i get a brownstone or an apartment?

Ipod, if it says apartment, you’ve probably gotten assigned to an apartment in a brownstone. The main difference is that you’ll have a kitchen, bathroom and maybe living area, instead of just a bedroom. I thought that most, if not of all, of the brownstones on Bay State were dormitory style, but some must be apartment style I guess.

The way you tell is to check if you have a meal plan. If you have a dorm they give you a meal plan, if you have an apartment you are not given a meal plan unless you opt for one!

Thanks for the info guys! Really appreciate it. Yea i dont have a meal plan so i guess it must an apartment in the bay state brownstones. Thanks

both kids wanted towers as their first choice… daughter got limited parietal house, son got claflin…

I’m in warren on the 12th floor in the c tower which is apparently the engineering floor. Unfortunately I am in CAS as a polysci major. Could this have happened by accident, or is it common for non majors to be placed on specialty floors. Also, how out of place will I be. I’ve read that specialty floors have a lot of special events and things that have to do with there major, will I be required to go to these. Should I try to switch my assignment, or just give it a try? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
