There was a thread on CC, I believe, a couple of years ago, about some of the linen companies. You’d have to look to find it (it might have been on the Parents Forum). A couple of parents remarked that the linens were not as soft as they liked. Don’t know if it’s the same company, but I thought I would pass that along.

We bought a lot of stuff from JC Penney. It can be sent to Paty Delivery Center. My son really likes the sheets, towels, blankets and comforter I got, so much so that he encouraged me to purchase some of those items for his cousin, who heads off to college this fall.

Do not forget that Bed, Bath and Beyond also has great college stuff. You can do your buying online and again, ship everything.

In past CC threads, the vote was a big no on this company. Complaints about the quality of the products. If you want to 1 stop shop then collect your Bed, Bath, Beyond coupons and you can pre purchase all the items mentioned above, they will ship them for you pick them up at the B,B,B nearest your college in the fall. Most students don’t need two sets of linens.

Yes. Keep in mind that the nearest BB&B is in B’ham, so you’d have to pick up your stuff after you arrive at the airport. T-town will likely get a BB&B at some point, but it won’t have one in time for fall.

Wal-mart and I think Target also have the ability to order online and ship to the nearest college store.

JCPenney also has a lot of college stuff. I don’t know if you can order online and ship to the T-town store or if you can just have the stuff shipped to Paty Hall on campus.

Thanks for this thread, guys. And I would definitely get them a second set of linens. There’s going to be times those sheets REALLY need to be washed and they’ve got too much homework for laundry, so throw the groties in the closet and put on the freshies. They’ll get around to them eventually. Or bring them home to mom.

My kids have always had a second set of linens, too. There are times when they want to change linens but don’t have time to wash them.

We also put a few layers of pillow cases on their pillows, so that they can “peel one off” every couple of days for a fresh pillow. Helps with acne/oily face issues.

It may not be the most convenient source, but I have had great luck finding heavily discounted designer/high thread count linens at T.J. Maxx. They carry Laura Ashley, Ralph Lauren, tommy Hilfinger adn hotel brands among others that you’d find in the department stores. My local T.J. Maxx always has a large selection of sizes, so I’m hoping to find plenty of extra long twin sets.
The downside is that you get what you get - sometimes they have tons of what you want and sometimes nada, and of course they don’t do any shipping. I myself enjoy the thrill of the hunt and bagging a bargain, and what can I say - I have a thing for fancy sheets.

We had gotten a catalog from Pottery Barn Dorm the other day and while D was thumbing through, I dismissed it as probably being too expensive. I browsed over the weekend & their prices weren’t too bad. Then today I got an email that a lot of their bedding is 50% off including some Twin XL stuff. The sale ends today if anyone wants to get a head start.
^^^Thanks. And to answer my own question about delivery to Paty, I called them and FWIW they advised me not to have anything delivered before mid-July because they are doing inventory and don’t want new deliveries mixed in with their unclaimed stock, which will be returned to sender. Here’s the link to the Paty package delivery center webpage: [Student Affairs | Housing & Residential Communities](http://housing.ua.edu/on_campus/package.cfm)

If the student gives his or her parents a hard time this summer, those parents may want to pack up that student and his/her belongings very early. So it’s good to know that Paty accepts those mid-July deliveries.

^^^Hmm, now that you mention it, packing the student in a crate and sending him/her to Paty might be considerably cheaper than a plane ticket . . . :)

I definitely agree with the TJMaxx recommendation (Ross will also have a good selection). I think I’ve been to every location those chains have in Bham and there usually is a good selection. I do suggest looking in the normal bedding section and not exclusively in the dorm/back to school sections as some of the standard pillows/blankets/etc. work just as well as the dorm stuff.

I read the CC reviews about the company mentioned and hardly looked at the flyer before throwing it out. I got better stuff for less money by shopping around. I liked looking for and choosing the stuff that went in my dorm room (which I know a lot of guys don’t) rather than buying a package containing many things I have no need for.

In the coming weeks, all y’all should be receiving a letter detailing the packages the company offers.
