Residence hall linens

Has anyone from current college students had any bussiness with the company called "Residence Hall Linens" (<a href="http://www.rhl.org)?%5B/url%5D">www.rhl.org)?</a> Some time ago, I received their brochure offering to buy all the linens and bathroom stuff for ~$220. Should I buy their stuff or should I buy everything once I am on campus in August?

From what I've heard, the stuff from that company isn't very good quality. I got their brochure, but I just tossed it in the trash.

I got a really cute bed set from Linens N' Things by Liz Claiborne. At least I know the quality is good and hundreds of other people won't have it.

I got a brochure from them, but I wouldn't buy from it. I'd much rather buy my own sets of bedding. I got some awesome stuff from The Company Store instead.

OK, thanks.

Now, is ~$220 for all the linens and bathroom stuff considered to be cheap in the US? Because I know that I will have a chance to visit WallMart and buy all the stuff there.

For how many sets would you be spending $220 on?

It's for the comfort pack and the student shower pack (pair of sandals, etc).

2 extra-long fitted sheets
2 extra-long flat sheets
4 standard pillow cases
2 extra-fluffy machine washable pillows
1 extra-long reversible comforter
1 extra-long quilted mattress pad
1 extra-long egg crate pad
2 all-cotton bath towels, 27" x 50"
1 matching cotton hand towel
1 matching cotton wash cloth
1 pop-open hamper
1 bedside buddy

I bought it because it seemed convenient at the time and S likes basic stuff -- nothing fancy or "designer label". These things don't hold up well at all.

If I were you I wouldn't buy it, but that's me. I think you could probably get better deals on better stuff elsewhere.

People I've asked tell me to just linens from Bed, Bath, & Beyond or Target rather than RHL

i bought the linens from RHL. They give u a 4 year guarantee on the linens..i think that's a good offer..and i got the complete pack for $189.

it's deffinetly cheap-- I don't think you couldmatch the prices anywhere else, but the quality is deffinetly questionable.

Tommy Hilfiger makes good long sheets at a decent price. I have two sets that I can't use anymore since i no longer live on campus, but they were great when I had them...held up well in the wash, fit great, good color choice, food stains washed out well (I always am eating in bed since I've got a TV in front of it, both when I lived there and at home).

Don't forget you also need to buy a pillow. RL makes nice ones. They also make excellent comforters (another thing you need to buy). If you've got an RL outlet in your area, you can find the comforters, including down comforters, really cheap.

Hmm, I just bought a comforter and bed sheets from them like 10 minutes ago...crap

My school says that only RHL bedsheets, comforters etc. will fit their beds.

bs2- That is not true! Either the beds at your school are Twins or Twin XL. You can go to any store for twin sheets and most stores have XL during their back to school promos. Try Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and most department stores. Also many catalog companies carry twin extra longs-The Company Store, Pottery Barn Kids and Teens.

BTW, you do not need a twin XL comforter or blanket, a regulat twin will work just fine. It is only the bottom sheet that needs to be XL. Check with your school and see what size your bed will be and then buy whatever sheets you want. My kids looked forward to buy a bedding set in colors and patterns they liked; it made their dorm room feel more like home!

I emailed RHL to get an idea of the thread count of the sheets...180 thread count (60% cotton, 40% poly)....they said that if you call to order that for an extra $5 per sheet set you can upgrade to 250 thread count 100% cotton.

I am a mom with her own college experience - the company you mentioned gave me the dimensions of their linens - save yourself some money and by from Penny's or Kohls (we are in the midwest). Right now they are having a sale. I bought my son (leaves for UIUC in August) the jersey cotton ones. They are soft and plenty long (If you get the ones marked XL). They are more roomy than the company you mentioned, and a far better quality for soooooo much cheaper.

A word of warning about the jersey cotton sheets: I got them, and talked my best friend into getting them because they were so soft and not expensive. BAD choice! They do NOT stay on the bed. we went to different schools, with different beds, we sleep differently, and both of us independantly had bad experiences. I was constantly re-making my bed, and the flat sheets were always like, twisted up into a ball at the end of the night. They also really hold in moisture so if you sweat at all the sheets are like, mildly wet (and I am not a freaky person who sweats a lot, never before have I had any issues with sheets). They ARE soft, but they just don't stay on the bed. If you can, return them and get some normal sheets.

This is a complaint in 2005.

Eh, RHL apparently has a mention by Occidental, so they must be legit.
