Residence hall preference

I'm filling out my eliving, and I was wondering what the best choice is for residence halls preference. If you could make suggestions and give a reason I would greatly appreciate it.

If you are a freshman, go for East Halls. I would say like 80% of freshmen are in East.

You might want to take a look at the Special Living Options--
http://www.hfs.psu.edu/housing/undergraduates/slo.shtml
which might increase your chances of living with similar interests.

I think I'll choose east halls then. I'm not into the whole special living thing, just because I don't want to put myself in a situation with one type/group of people.

if your gonna live in east, I believe that Curtin and Pennypacker are the most diverse (no their not all minorities but I know Pennypacker is made up of 25% of minorities)

SLOs are good because they often have things like programs to introduce you to PSU and they often have their own tutors and things like that.

CH121S, Are you in an SLO?

I picked South and Pollock, but I might reverse the order. I wish I had visited campus now =( Any comments on Pollock vs South?

Pollock and South. Both fine -both very close to the downtown state college area and many dining halls. Also close to the HUB, White Building (Rec) and many classroom buildings. Some rooms in South are "small doubles" - and they are quite small (were once used for singles).

I chose South then West.

Yes I am in a SLO

Can I ask which one?

I wont just post where I am currently living on the forum however you are welcome to private message me the same question ;).

Toneranger, do you know how they choose who has to stay in a "small double"?

most housing is basically random ;)

Are the small doubles smaller than the rooms in East?

Definitely.

This is a small double. The left side of the photo is the left side of the room with two closets and one chest of drawers built into the wall.
The beds must be bunked or lofted, you cannot have them both on the ground at the same time and fit in desks as well.
This is a regular double.

The built in area where the tv is shows the built ins. The small double built in is half the width because those rooms were originally singles.
There are also some different sized rooms available in South but this is generally what is in Simmons & McElwain.
Sometimes they make the regular doubles into triples when space is tight.

Ewww. I think I'm going to switch back to East then West instead of South then West.

well on the other hand the location is ideal...

I would absolutely hate having a bunk bed or loft in college. Maybe I should replace south with pollock.

I'm not sure how they assign the small doubles - may be just by chance. If you do choose South, can't hurt to call and ask for a reg double. It's worth a shot...
