When I was touring the UCLA campus the other day I got to take a tour of the housing but only saw the plazas. I'm thinking living in a residence hall at least for the first year would be a better experience, but I'm curious how the bathrooms are set up. How big are they? About how many people are sharing a bathroom on a floor? How many toilets/showers/sinks in each one? Any particular likes or dislikes from anyone? Just trying to get a feel for them since I didn't get a chance to see them when I visited.

haha thats funny cause i just took a shower and a bunch of people were touring the bathroom when i came out...awkward lol. well im a girl, i live in rieber so hopefully this holds true for other dorms/other gender and such too. there are 4 bathroom stalls, 6 sinks, 6 showers. you will never have a problem getting any one of these things, im usually the only one in there at any one time. 75 people on the floor, so i guess you're sharing with roughly half this number, cause theres one girl and one guy bathroom per floor. no dislikes, esp. cause i live right next to the bathroom. youll get used to it, its all good.

That sounds pretty nice actually...thanks for the input.

You'll get to experience it during orientation, if you're going. :)

Four parallel toilet stalls on one side, six shower stalls on the other side (three on one side facing three on the other), and six sinks with two large mirrors in the middle.

are the toilet and shower stalls private in each hall (like with own area/room where you can lock it when you're using it) or is it like where u shower with everyone else around you?

lockable. just like public restroom.

how about the showers? lockable also? 1 shower per stall and there are like a few stalls?

1 shower per stall, and theres several stalls. keep in mind the communal bathrooms arent exactly the from building to building....or even within the same building for that matter. for example rieber north doesnt have a changing area in the shower stalls, while rieber south does.

How are they set up? I know it’'s the oldest dorm, just wanna make sure they are similar to the rest!

I lived in Dykstra first year (best dorm!) and while the Hill has changed a lot since this thread, Dyskstra…hasn’t haha.

Dykstra has 2 bathrooms on each floor: one for boys and one for girls. There are 8 stalls in each bathroom with one communal changing area next to them with a bench. Some people preferred to wear robes and then walk back to their room to change but most of us put on their boxers in the stall and changed in the communal area.

Anyway, hope you enjoy Dykstra! Take advantage of how social it is…no dorm is more social. (Due to the way the rooms are arranged)
