Residence halls - Third North or Founders?

Hello all, I'm new around here, so be gentle!

My name is Oren, and I was accepted Early Decision into the film/television studies program at Tisch, starting freshman year this September. I just recently filled out my residence forms, but I am still facing a bit of a dilemma with the residence halls.

I've heard many great things about the new residence hall, Founders - spacious rooms, clean, aesthetic, no mold or maintenance problems or anything - but unfortunately, the lack of services is really a turn-off for me. No dining hall, no exercise room, nothing of the sort. Yes, I realize that these can all be found just a block over at Third North, but in the midst of the high-pressure school year, and not to mention when it's raining, or in the wintertime, I just don't see myself going over there.

Third North, on the other hand, has all these services conveniently found in the building itself, and also, from what I could gather from a few people I spoke to, many film students take up residence there, which is a good thing for me. Yes, I know that it's an older, grimier building, but I don't know. I currently live in Israel and will not have any chance to visit the residence halls and see what the conditions are for myself until August, during orientation week, so this is really a decision I will have to make blind. And I just don't know if the lack of a dining hall and other such establishments at Founders is a decision-breaking factor for me.

So... could anyone with some familiarity with these residence halls help me out? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate any and all advice!

The real exercise areas are at Palladium and Coles, the residence hall exercise rooms are usually ridiculously small, and have very little in them other than a treadmill/bike etc. You will probably find yourself walking over to Palladium often regardless of which place you pick since its only a block away from founders, 2 from third north. Never really been in third north but, it would be more convenient for you to stay there if you are in a hurry a lot. Founder’s rooms and views especially on the higher floors are amazing though, especially at night when it’s all lit up. My friend had a view of all of downtown and could see the manhattan, williamsburg, and brooklyn bridges as well as pretty much all of downtown.

Well, the exercise room isn’t the main issue here, the real important element that has me leaning towards Third North as opposed to Founders is the dining hall. It just seems incredibly and crucially convenient to have one actually IN the building, and not two blocks away. Then again, I could be wrong. Anyone else have any advice on this matter?

Thanks!

I live in Lafayette…I would trade 20 blocks for 2 blocks any day lol.

Just want to clarify the distance between the two buildings. Founders isn’t even half a block. It’s literally right across the street past a little parking area. And every tower except south has been renovated and I THINK they’re going to renovate south tower this summer so it will be at least as good as north and east towers. A couple of people I’ve shown the dorm to think it’s like living in a hotel.

But it’s just a matter of whether you want the kitchen or not really.

Which dorm is that, Nabende, that the people you showed it to said it’s like living in a hotel - Third North or Founders? The towers that have been renovated - are those in Third North? And which dorm building has the kitchens - Third North or Founders?

Thanks for replying!
