Residence Halls

I'm at the point where I need to be taking action on housing. I'd like comments, opinions and statements about the different residence halls (ones on North Campus).

Which are the nicest? Which are in the best locations? Etc?

I'd love lots of feedback. Thank you!

Well there are ups and downs to almost every dorm but I'll give you the lowdown on them.

Dellplain Hall- Spacious split doubles but no dining halls. Proximity to campus makes it a convenient location.

Shaw Hall. Shaw is a good location as it is close to campus. The only drawback is that the rooms are made up of mostly open doubles which can be a pain when it comes to privacy. Shaw houses a dining Hall which can be extremely convenient on Cold Saturday mornings when you're hungry but don't feel like stepping out

Brewster/Boland Halls aka BB. Great and newly renovated dorms with a dining hall but location is a real pain. It is close to campus but you have to walk up a hill which can be extremely tiring.

Marion/Kimmel. Great location, mediocre dorms and close to Kimmel food court--but you still have to step outside.

Haven Hall- Spacious enoughs plit double dorms, houses a dining hall but walking up the hill to the dorm can be a pain.

Lyons- I'd say Lyons is the dorm that you might not want to live in yoru first year. It is an annoying walk from campus, it's extremely small with a population of probably 35 students and it houses no dining hall.

SkyHalls- The drawback about skyhalls are that it is far campus in a location known as "South campus" andf it houses open doubles. The good part about it is that since skyhall residences are placed in a location where you literally have to take the bus to main campus, they treated the students with a meal plan that includes the main fast food quarters in "Goldstein student center." You'll learn more once you get to campus but this is just the gist.

Lawrinson/Sadler- I'd say these two are some of the worst freshman dorms on campus because of location and age. They are near each other and Sadler houses a dining hall which can be convenient.

Students their second year typically prefer to live in Watson because of the close location to campus and suites available or even "South campus" because of the apartment style dorm rooms but with the Ernie Davis hall being built for upperclassmen and the University Villages coming soon, there will be a greater and more luxurious option for dorming.

P.S. off-campus housing is really popular too because most houses in Syracuse are really affordable. It just boils down to picking the right ones.
