I just came back from Admitted Students Day. I really liked Stony Brook a lot more than some other schools I've seen. It's absolutely gorgeous but I'm kind of worried about residence life. I don't like how every freshman is tripled. How long will that last? And also is it a problem for anybody that floors are not separated by class, especially for incoming freshman.

Usually freshman are tripled for either a semester or 2. Since the new dorms will be finished by Fall 08, I believe, there might be a chance that you will not be tripled. Also tons of people say they don't want to go back to a double, when asked, because they like their 2 roommates. So you should just see how it goes, and when the time comes to double see if you want to.

A few quick clarifications. The new halls should be open by Fall 2009. Most freshmen will be tripled this fall, but we hope to detriple as soon as possible. About 15% of triples this year opted to stay tripled when offered to detriple.

Hope you all enjoyed the admitted students day today! We had a much bigger turnout than we anticipated, and I hope you all got your questions answered.

Chris

There were soo many people there today, it was crazy....

It shows a lot of people are interested in the school, so that is cool. I heard one of the heads saying they were running out of some sheet because there were more people then anticipated.

I wish I went today. Any idea how quickly detripling could happen? I know last year someone was detripled within like two weeks, but I figure that there will be more people attending this year.

What is the percentage of freshman who get detripled?

I'm not sure, but I think almost everyone's detripled by now -- or at least everyone's been given the option to do so.

What are the chances of getting into our first choice of undergraduate college?

As far as I know, everyone gets their first choice. I know some people changed their minds and were able to change it by calling the school.

thanks! Im interested in leadership and service, it seems like its an active group based on what i have seen on the website. Does this hold true?

Not necessarily. You'll need to get your deposits in early. Science & Society and Arts, Culture, and Humanities have filled up first in the past; don't know what it looks like yet this year.

Chris

It says if you are put into a college that you do not want, you have to wait a year to switch your college I believe.

There are people on the Facebook group who have been able to change their colleges.

Maybe when it starts filling up more it won't be possible, but right now it is.
