So i've heard a lot about the different residences and their reps and such and just wanted to know what everyone else thought. Douglas sounds pretty sweet but it also sounds like only ppl far up in the lottery get in. And New Rez sounds fun but i heard it was clique-y and that scared me because I don't like clique-y places.

Does anyone know anything more? Or thoughts?

New Rez is a hotel. The hotel residences (new rez and C4) don’t appeal to me personally. Douglas Hall is my top choice, followed by RVC. I liked the sense of community i felt between everyone when i visited.

I would also like to know if residences are assigned first come first serve - my son has not decided whether to attend yet - just wondering if he should rush in order to get the residence he wants if he does choose McGill.

Residences are assigned using a lottery, but those who have a major scholarship are guaranteed their first (or if the first is full then second) choice.

I was in New Rez first year - it’s very cliquey (mostly Canadian private school kids and Americans) but a ton of fun. I had a single a felt like Eloise. The dining room is amazing - and the best part - the attached shopping center that has an awesome indie movie theatre/grocery store/lcbo (only place you can buy liquor in mtl), sushi shop and an amazing Thai place plus a tanning salon! Trust me, with Montreal’s weather, this is a major plus! It’s very safe and jut a 5 min walk from campus.

I had the best year of my life at New Rez. If your family can afford it, trust me, it’s worth it.

I am currently in C4. I think its better than New Rez because we have smaller floors, so you get to know everyone on your floor, which helps the sense of community. New Rez just seems too big. And C4 is just steps away from St.Caths, where you have all your bars, shops and restaurants. That is what my friends in Upper Rez dislike about living so far up the hill. But our Caf food sucks. I go to RVC to eat everyday.
