Residency at the time of application.

I will move to Virginia next summer and am applying to UVA RD. Currently, my family lives in Washington State.

At the time of enrollment, I will have established state domicile, and will be paying in-state residency tuition, if admitted. I gathered this from:

[quote]
“Q: Is the dependent applicant of an active duty military member assigned to a base in Virginia or one of the contiguous states or the District of Columbia eligible for in-state privilege?”
A: Yes, provided that the active duty military member is residing in Virginia. The applicant or his or her parent(s) will be expected to provide proof of the military member’s active duty status.

The Application for Virginia In-State Privileges will not reflect that, however. My parent will not be issued the requisite documentation until the spring.

I do not want to apply as an OOS student, but it appears I may have to. Is there a way that I can explain my situation or resubmit the Application for In-State Privileges when I have the proof?

In case it is pertinent, my parent pays taxes to a different state (where I also qualify for in-state residency), I lived in Virginia for two years, and I am a competitive applicant (not really for OOS though).

I appreciate any help and apologize if I should have posted elsewhere! :)

I would call the school and ask them directly. I think they will be happy to help you!

Thanks! I probably will. :)

As soon as you are legally allowed, change everything in your family to a Virginia address. You might not get in-state admissions, but you may eventually get in-state tuition. I understand there is a waiting period to establish full in-state residency, but that may not apply for active duty military.

Good advice, thank you! I will pay in-state tuition, but not if I am unable to be admitted as an OOS.

UVA is a nice school and I won’t mind either way. :)
