RESIDENCY! CC to UC

Hello,
I moved to California from out of state three years ago to attend a CC. It took a lot of work, but I was able to prove and establish residency at my CC and now pay in state tuition. I do know, however, that it is up to the UC to determine if you will be considered an in-state student.

I was accepted to UCSB, but their financial aid offer is meek and they are considering me out-of-state. It’s probably because I had to submit my parent’s taxes on my FAFSA since I’m not married, a foster child, or in the military, and am under 24. My parents haven’t listed me as a dependent for two years, but FAFSA still requires me to submit their taxes.

I am waiting to hear back from other UCs, but when I did a little research I found that I can’t begin filing residency paperwork until I SIR.

I guess my question is, has anyone filed for residency at the UC and was accepted for in-state tuition? How difficult was the process? Did you have in-state at a CC? I think the only main difference is two years of financial independence instead of one (which I have proof of)…

Well for UCSC they want me to fill out a Statement of Legal Residency since I put down that I did not spend 3 years in a CA highschool. Though my situation is more unique. To put it bluntly, I moved in with my father before my senior year of high school and I spent a year and graduated in 2013. My father was already a CA resident and as I was still a minor at the time I moved in with him I legally got CA residency that way. On the SLR it just asked me if I planned to stay in CA after I graduate from college which I do. It asked me for the date in which I had gotten my CA license, ID, and date of CA registration for my car. I did have in-state at CC and was receiving the first two years of Cal Grant. Though I accidentally SIR to UCSC and I got the SLR application. Though I called and had the SIR reset and the SLR also reset so I can’t really say I know the resident process at the UC.
