Residency if Parents Move Out of State?

Hello. If my parents were to move out of state, will I still be able to get california residency for tuition purposes? I am currently a first year.

I found this on the UC Residence Policy and Guidelines that it doesn’t matter if:

“the student reached the age of majority in California while his parents were residents (for tuition purposes) of this state AND the California resident parents left the state to establish a residence elsewhere AND the student continued to reside in the State of California after the parents’ departure.”

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? What does it mean when the student continues to reside in California? Can I not leave the state at all?

Thank you.
