Residency Question

If I took a year off before coming to msu and worked full time and lived in michigan for a full year, would I get residency?

Probably not. It goes by where your parents live or where you graduated high school.

If you move to MI, work full time for a year, and can prove that you are independent of your parents (no financial help), then you will become a MI resident for tuition purposes. I recently spoke to someone in the financial aid department about becoming a resident because I don’t want to pay OOS tuition for vet school (~$200k for four years, tuition only). However, I am not going to pursue this route and have other ways of becoming a MI resident. Give the financial aid department a call to discuss your situation. Good luck!
