I live in Michigan and my um determined residency status is out of state, which I don't really get because my brother goes there as in-stater.
But I sent in all the files containg the files proving that I live in Michigan about a month ago, which was as soon as I found that my um determined residency status is out of state.
And my residency status still won't change.
In the letter they sent me, it said they will wait about a month to determine my residency, but I wasn't sure if it was a month after they get my letter or after they sent me that letter.
I'm just really worried because I don't have good stats and how it's better to apply early.
Does anyone know how long this is supposed to take?
Please, help me!!

I don't know either, but I have the same problem. Also sent in the stuff about a month (perhaps a little more) ago. I was accepted, which is great, but I'm still waiting for that status to change.

You were accepted?
So, they don't wait for the residency status?
Then I might have a really big problem because I think I don't have a good chance of getting in as out of state.
Do you think they'll wait for it if they were going to reject me???

Gudana and others,

Call the Residency Classification Office at 734-764-1400 and explain your situation to them. They will generally help you to expedite this process. If you are at school, have your parent or another adult call them during daytime. Do keep following up as UM is swamped with applications at this time and it will take time for them to process yours but a little persistence pays off.

I believe residency is determined by where your parents live and pay taxes. Having a cottage in Michigan will not do the trick either.
